Permanent box dye, that is actually permanent!

So I colour my hair a med brown, I aim for a neutral brown, I usually go for Garnier Olia Brown, shade 5.0 as I love the colour. However, it does wash up/fade quite quickly after about a week or two my hair is considerably lightened again. I do use colour safe shampoo & conditioners & I try not to wash my hair too often & limit the use of straighteners.

I have tried Garnier Nutrisse and that didn’t cover my roots so I wasn’t impressed with that one. I don’t go to a salon as a) too expensive and b) I’m never really happy with the result anyway!

I’m wonder if the Olia hair dye isn’t staying in my hair because it’s ammonia free? I don’t know. I wouldn’t say my hair is in bad condition, although I obviously colour it so it’s not in perfect condition.

Has anyone got any recommendations for a med brown, neutral/ash brown permanent box dye that generally lasts more than a month?!

I’ve tried them all, I’ve yet to find a really permenant dye. They all wash out within two weeks. I’ve given up now. Hope someone comes along with a good suggestion.

@GenerousGardener I know, it’s so frustrating, I don’t want to be having to colour my hair every 4 weeks because the colour has faded/washed up, it’s supposed to be permanent. I have had salon dyes that do the same, I did think it might be just my hair! Also, the last time I dyed it, I really made sure I saturated the colour & left it on for an extra 10 mins but it has still faded. I could go a shade darker & then as it washes up it won’t be so light so quick, but I’m reluctant to do that, I may end up with black hair that doesn’t wash up!

I suppose it’s trial & error. Years ago I use to use Poly Colour tint, cheap but as I recall it did a good job of covering my roots & the natural brown colour was a good neutral brown. I may give that a go next time.

@seeyouyesterday years ago in the 70's, if your put a permanent dye in your hair, it stayed there until it grew out. I think manufacturers have got wise to this as it's not cost effective for them. So the dye has been watered down to almost nothing, meaning you have to redo it every other week. I just don't bother anymore.....
