I've fallen in love with the dress on Vinted. We have a wedding in 6 weeks and thinking of getting it for then. Is it too summery? Any idea what to wear to keep warm?

The pattern looks like it’s of Christmas trees and lights so I would perhaps buy for the festive season but not for a wedding.

IWantedThereThereButItsGone · 01/09/2024 13:58

It’s not summery. But nor is it terribly October Wedding.

I’d suggest a tweed coat in one of the print colours. Or perhaps a cropped, furry jacket. And some excellent knee high boots to prevent it looking like a nightdress.

It's black so definitely not too summery

It's fine

These are other options

I don't like any of these options OP (sorry!) I'm 60, and even to my old head, they are all a bit frumpy.

CakeIsNotAvailable · 01/09/2024 14:25

I much prefer the two long-sleeved options you've posted, and personally I'd get one of those. I know plenty of people wear black to weddings, but I think a lighter colour would be more the thing for an earlyish autumn wedding. Just my personal preference though!

IWantedThereThereButItsGone · 01/09/2024 14:42

You do like a flouncy fabric!

Because it will be autumn I’d want an autumn fabric - velvet, tweed, wool flannel, a heavy silk, damask, even perhaps cord - something with weight and structure. For me that would probably mean a velvet trouser suit, so I’m probably incapable of appreciating your choices. But I think any of them could look seasonal and celebratory underneath a simple and elegant velvet / suede / tweed coat.

I really do love flouncy! And embroidery if you couldn't tell.

Really struggling as I'm used to summer weddings in quite grand settings not an autumnal registry wedding.

The original one I posted is navy not black if that changes anything.

Is the maxi a better option?!

They all look frumpy and dated. Definitely not summery and wedding-ey.

The black one looks like Christmas tree decorations.

GettingStuffed · 01/09/2024 15:34

I love the long sleeve blue one. None are frumpy

It will only be mid-October, not the middle of winter. If the weather stays mild for a few weeks, lots of us will still be eking out our more summery clothes still.

Seas164 · 01/09/2024 15:43

It's not too summery. If you love it then that's what matters. What to wear with it, maybe a velvet jacket and suede ankle boots in colours that go, hard to tell from the photo what you're working with. Have fun!

Velvet navy jacket

Navy velvet jacked with cinched waist and single sparkly button. Great to dress up jeans or for a formal occasion. Smoke free, pet free home.

Thank you, I really do love it. Clearly very subjective though!

It’s lovely, the floral pattern is very gypsy caraven 1970’s style. I would wear it with a cardy in the daytime and for the evening the lovely puffy sleeves will show.

isitme111 · 01/09/2024 18:20

Maybe wear with a light fabric bright coloured pashmina.

IWantedThereThereButItsGone · 01/09/2024 18:23

She could read all the wedding party and guests’ fortunes, too …
