Awful green jumpsuit?

user1471867483 · 31/08/2024 13:09

I bought a safari-style jumpsuit similar in colour to this (below) - (this is not the jumpsuit btw). My mum can't stand the colour of it and says because I'm so fair, the colour doesn't suit me. I was thinking of dyeing it. What colour should I dye it to?

Well you won't have much choice, probably black, brown or Navy. Anything else won't cover a colour that dark. Which of those suits your colouring the most?

Thank you. I was also thinking of jeans blue colour?

Tread carefully. Even if it’s a fabric that will dye, the sewing thread won’t take the colour. This is because synthetic fabrics won’t dye with your usual Dylon machine type dyes, and thread is usually synthetic. So you’ll end up with a black jumpsuit with original green thread. And this can really show that the stitching is uneven.

If you like it, wear it and ignore your mum. Or Vinted it and buy another jumpsuit in your preferred colour, there are plenty around including utility style ones in black and navy.

WonderingWanda · 31/08/2024 13:16

You might get away with it but I imagine it might just look a but sludgy on top of that green.

Also true. You still need to consider the colour wheel - if you dye a yellow dress blue, it will likely come out green, for example. @WonderingWanda is right that the blue on green could give a sludgey colour.

IWantedThereThereButItsGone · 31/08/2024 13:21

My mum can't stand the colour of it

Your mother isn’t wearing it, though. Why does her opinion matter? Do you choose her clothes for her?? Hmm

Domoda · 31/08/2024 13:21

What about a different shade of green such as forest green? That should take ok over the top of this colour. Opposing colours you are risking it 'mixing' with the current colour eg red dye might produce brown

Bearpawk · 31/08/2024 13:25

Tell your mum to fuck off and wear what you like x

BeMintBee · 31/08/2024 13:26

It’s a nice colour. I’m very fair and wear this colour often 🤷‍♀️ I think your mum not liking the colour is just that rather than whether or not she thinks it suits you!

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 31/08/2024 13:29

I think your only option is a darker green colour over it. What is the fabric?

It's linen.

Nods in agreement.

I love that colour. It’s more interesting than basic green.

hereismydog · 31/08/2024 13:40

I like the colour 🤷🏼‍♀️ and it suits pretty much every skin tone.

I wouldn’t risk dyeing it and ruining it, if you really don’t want to wear it as it is, just put it on Vinted and buy something you like!

Seaweed42 · 31/08/2024 14:08

Unless it cost loads, if you don't like it then donate or sell it and move on with your life.

But maybe don't listen to your mother too much as well, generally speaking.

She needs to keep her narrow minded, self interested, one viewpoint only, opinions to herself. Especially after you bought a thing and can't return it...

Hi. It's nice I think, I would not dye. Team it with pair of silver strap sandals, around 3 inches😀

KirstenBlest · 31/08/2024 14:44

I'd go to an olive green or darker green, or look into getting it to fade a bit.
I think trying to change colour will result in a sludge colour, or you'll get a good colour with the thread being in the original colur.

If it was expensive or a well-known brand (e.g. Toast, Poetry etc), sell it.

TheOGCCL · 31/08/2024 14:47

If its actually linen you might end up with shrinkage as well as visible stitching.

There's nothing wrong with that colour on pale skin but depends on your undertone (should be warm).

isthismylifenow · 31/08/2024 15:00

I really like the colour. And I'm really pale too.

How about posting a photo of you wearing it. Your mum may not always be right.

I don't know why I would be very nervous to dye linen.

Bargain! Add jewellery or something at the neckline to brighten it a bit.
Your mother probably just doesn't like the colour.

So wear it if you like it.
