Who has a bob?

They seem to be the in trend haircut and it just tickles me how fashion articles can stick random words onto the front to explain 'new and exciting' bob styles (just seen one called the curl bob and it was just tucked behind peoples ears!!LOL).

So who has a bob?
I have one. Just above shoulder blunt cut with fringe because its easy for work and I can cut it myself in a pinch. Also since perimeno my hair starts to thin out after shoulder length so long hair just isnt it.

Just realiesed recently its the same haircut I had as a teenager as well! oops!😆

My hair goes straggly as soon as it hits my shoulders as it’s so fine so I’ve always had a bob sometimes to my shoulders and other times it’s at my chin.

I’ve had a fringe, I’ve had it in a side parting and also occasionally a middle parting. It goes from dark brown to light blonde depending on the season.

Would love one. Epitome of elegance.

MorrisZapp · 30/08/2024 10:59

As a lifelong magazine reader I've never worked out what a bob is. Any haircut at all seems to be a 'long bob', 'short bob' etc.

MrTwatchester · 30/08/2024 12:29

I’ve a chin length bob, my hair also goes knotted and straggly before it gets to my shoulders.

My bob is not at all classy or elegant though. I would love it if it were like Gemma Arterton’s in St Trinians, or Dawn French’s when she had one, but my hair isn’t thick enough. Mine is scruffy. I don’t bother styling it because I’m a fidget and constantly touching my hair.

FjordFancier · 30/08/2024 13:12

Plum Sykes had the best bob! So chic in the country or the city. Love the border terriers too!

I've just got one.

It's actually shorter at the back than the front even though I asked for it to fall all one length.

Apparently a bob looks like whatever the hairdresser thinks it should look like.

I've finally grown mine back into a bob after having a short pixie-ish cut for a frw years. It's just chin-length, but I want to grow it long enough to tie back. I have very fine, poker-straight hair which breaks increasingly easily wheh I blow-dry it, which I can get away without doing at least some if the time when it's longer and tied back. I'm in my early 50s and have probably had a bob for the majority of my life!

InnerPlop · 30/08/2024 13:29

I have a graduated bob. It's cut in to the nape of my neck at the back and gets longer as it goes to the front, where it's about 1inch or so below my chin, with a centre parting and blunt fringe. I get it reshaped every 8 weeks. It's been my "style" for about 10 years, but I love it! 😂

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 30/08/2024 14:53

Me - mine is a proper Louise Brooks number, usually cut to about earlobe level with a short blunt fringe. I do have an undercut at the back too though. I get it cut every four or five weeks. Bob + red lipstick = my trademark style.

dudsville · 30/08/2024 15:14

I just recently did this (myself) as a result of all the hair washing that results from my new gym membership. I am surprised how much I like it and 50 years of long hair. So much easier to look after, I feel like my hair is always "done". My hair is full/thick and wavy.

NancyBellaDonna · 30/08/2024 15:20

I've got a bob. I thinks it's called a French Bob because it's curly with a short fringe and chin level length. Fine thick hair with a kink (slight curl). I do find it a bit difficult to manage as I am not good at hair. I can style it with curlers or straighteners but the ends tend to dry out. Other times I put a scarf of Alice band in or leave it straight.

soundsys · 30/08/2024 15:27

Ooh I just went back to a bob after getting sick of it being long. Nice to know I'm on trend unexpectedly 🤣

Idontjetwashthefucker · 30/08/2024 15:29

Does a lob count? I have one of these (long bob) which is more often than not wavy

I had the same problem with the hairdresser, asked for a one lenght bob and she cut it shorter at the back.
now waiting for my hair to grow back so I can cut it again but this time at one length..

queenofthewild · 30/08/2024 16:04

Me! I have one with a fringe (because a fringe trim is cheaper than Botox).

I looked an awful mess on holiday with the humidity when I couldn't tie it back though.

soberfabulous · 30/08/2024 16:20

Me! Had one for years and I love it. Very blunt and blonde.

Realized a few months ago I reminded myself of Tanya Turner from Footballers Wives. Was delighted as she's iconic 🤪

minipie · 30/08/2024 16:23

Nope, I’ve tried a bob but my hair is thin and fine and in a bob it just hangs pathetically in mid air. If I have it touching my shoulders or longer then it at least has some movement it in and it’s not so obvious how little of it there is. Lob for me all the way.

Highlighta · 30/08/2024 16:24

I do. Graduated at the moment.

I've had a bob for years and will change it slightly every now and then.

It just suits me. I get complimented and asked who my hairdresser is all the time. She isn't taking on new clients now so asked me to just say the salon name and not her name now 😂

TheFairyCaravan · 30/08/2024 16:27

Me. I’ve had one on and off for over 30 years. I don’t really like the length atm but I’m going on holiday in 2 weeks so am just going to have it trimmed, so I can still tie it up, then when I come home I’ll have an inch or so chopped off.

ArabellaFishwife · 30/08/2024 16:33

I have one, and like OP I've just realised I currently have the same haircut I had at school, on and off. Got a school reunion coming up, so hopefully they'll remember me with long wavy hair rather than a bob. At least I can tame the wilder bits with straighteners these days.
