Hello fellow pear shapes

Please can you let me know your tricks and tips to balance out the general hip area? What are your wardrobe stapes / general day to day wear?

I really need to update my look

Any advice much appreciated x

I like tops with quite sharp shoulders or shoulder ruffles like this - I think they work best on a slim/ flat-chested top half. Anything Victorian-style does the trick.

I sometimes use hold me in shorts to pull in my hips a bit. I use padded bras to boost that area ti balance things a bit.

I do find that heels lengthen legs and help with the overall silhouette of a pear shape. Not that I wear them anymore…

With dresses and skirts, I go for A line or circle/ loose. Never pencil or bias cut for me.

I like designs that appear to broaden my shoulders a bit, be that a frill, horizontal stripe etc.

For necklines, I find slash/bardot necklines helpful, but in truth I wear most styles.

For trousers, I’ve found wide legged to work well. I’ve never had any luck with skinny, but some straight leg styles can be good. You’ll need to experiment with rise to see what works for you.

That’s all I can think of for now.

I'm finding cropped wide leg trousers work really well for me. I have some smart black ones from Boden for work and have just bought some cord ones from Seasalt (via Vinted) for the winter that I'm really pleased with and find very flattering. They'll work really well with a merino crew neck when it gets a bit cooler.

I avoid skinny jeans as they make me look like a turnip but I often tend to lean into being pear shaped. I don't really try to hide it or balance it out particularly because I think it's a great body shape to have.

Just to add, with jackets, I prefer jackets that hit just below my bum and are belted. These suit my short legged frame and make my shape look hourglass.
