Genuine Gucci Sunglasses

my local charity shop had a basket full of these same Gucci sunglasses which I bought one pair of.

can anyone help me understand if they are genuine? My only doubt is the “made in Italy” label is upside down on the arm and the model number 1659 on the other arm is also upside down. They feel good quality.

Have they got the gucci logo anywhere, I've not seen the brand name on the lens before, how much did you pay,

I don't know if yours are genuine. Mine are and they say made in Japan!

The brand name on the lens is a sticker that comes off. I paid £5 so not a big deal but DH doesn't like them so I was going to re-gift them back to charity but only want to do so if they are genuine!

Definitely not genuine if the brand name is a sticker, and the upside down text is a giveaway too!

But if you like them, wear them and sod what your DH thinks!

Why would a charity shop have a basket full of pairs of identical “Gucci” sunglasses without cases, cleaning cloths etc? Where would they have got them from? Common sense needed here I think!

I think 100% they are fake but that shouldn't stop you wearing them if you like them. No shoos would have a basket full of expensive designer sunglasses, the genuine ones go for hundreds.

Thanks all. I wasn't suspicious at the (small) basket full because this charity shop have a lot of designer wear in general and they price items low. It was the upside down text that made me second guess.

The Gucci 1659 is an old model - possibly a shop clearance/donation. They had around 10-15 pairs.

But yet I agree - I am not certain they are genuine due to the text on the arm being upside down.

They will be from Thailand and China.

They may not offer any protection for your eyes so be aware of that

Absolutely no way are they genuine. The shop should not be selling this tat. It's worth about a pound from a market stall, so about 10p to make. The charity should be informed that their shop is passing counterfeits. Rubbish ones at that. Claiming ignorance on the staff's part is not an excuse I don't think. Could it be they put the stickers on themselves even, and have their hand in the till?

My Gucci sunglasses have Gucci printed / engraved on the lens and were made in Italy. Mine are definitely genuine as I bought them in the opticians when I worked there. All our designer brands (Rayban, Prada, etc.) had the name engraved / printed on the lens.

I have Ray-bans and name is etched on lens. You can feel it isn't a print. On holiday in the Canaries I've seen lots of places selling 'designer' brand glasses which are obviously just rip-off fakes. It's pretty easy to tell - I don't think even the shops expect you to fall for it. But people will buy if they want the name and like the style at cheap prices. I'd be surprised if charity shops are allowed to sell this stuff legally here if they can be shown to be fakes, so perhaps somebody ought to have a word with them.

They don't look genuine. I have a pair of vintage Gucci sunglasses which I've owned from new so know they are real. The logo has changed since and at the time they did not have any branding on the lenses. I've attached how they look to compare.

I went back to the charity shop today. The woman said she knew they were not genuine - annoying! She let me exchange the glasses for another item and I got a beautiful Ashlin leather cross body handbag.

I hadn't noticed the upside down text when I bought them and I did believe them to be genuine at the time of purchase. I bought a Burberry silk dress for £3 last year, Sergio Rossi shoes for £8 last week - they have many designer items for low prices in this shop so it is easy to be fooled. However I feel 1000x better now.

She said they had sold all the other glasses they had.

Did you tell her that they are massively in the wrong to sell the "Gucci" glasses?
