When is a skirt too short?

I've been reviewing the contents of my wardrobe and general fashion. Now 50+ so wondering where I should draw the line when it comes to length of skirt. Is on the knee or just above still appropriate? Love midi but not huge fan of maxi and the days of mini are in the very very far distance! I know it's my choice but just wondered what everyone thinks is tasteful and not tarty! Btw lower legs are still ok so happy to show them off. Thighs on the other hand....

So long as I can't see your breakfast when you bend over I don't think you should worry much.

I don’t think it’s about age. Knee length skirts are a bit dated/out of fashion at the moment. I think it’s because they seem quite formal and everything has got a lot more casual.

If you show your pants when walking, let alone bending

OrkneyGirl · 27/08/2024 22:08

@TheOGCCL That's exactly the thing. I'm def behind the curve when it comes to fashion and most of knee length are either work or summery. Just got to that point when I need an overhaul! Guess hem is going down - def not up! And, as said, I'm not a huge maxi fan. Can't seem to find my style in midaxi Love blue end of colour spectrum and smaller pattern rather than bold.

I think short skirts aren’t very fashionable currently.
I also believe it depends on how you carry yourself and is therefore subjective. What I really dislike is seeing cycling shorts under dresses and skirts. If they are visible then your skirt is too short.

I have great shaped legs, but tiny ones ( Im 60 ) so I wear just a tad above the knee - ie full knee is on show.

Touching knee , for me, is just a tad too long and makes me look lopsided

HappierTimesAhead · 27/08/2024 22:12

Omnes have some lovely midi skirts

Musicalmistress · 27/08/2024 22:12

If your bum cheeks are showing below your hemline (yes I am looking at you NDN!) then, personally, I'd say it's too short but other than that whatever you feel good in works.

Cinnamonkie · 27/08/2024 22:14

Wear what makes you feel good! I won't wear anything that's shorter than the bottom of my knees and havent since I was in my early 20s

I totally agree about the cycling shorts thing. Seen that a lot and it just doesn't work!

I wish someone would tell the high school girls that near me, you can see the bottom of their bum cheeks when they walk!
