Mulberry bag or something else

So I’ve wanted a mulberry bag since age 18 I’ll finally be in a place to get one this year I’ve been trying to be good and only buy more expensive classic clothes the last few years. I’m now wobbling if I want a mulberry or do I want something else? Any recommendations? Or is my long love of mulberry bags just something I need to buy.

I do love the channel bags but would have to save for another year and can’t decide if they are to insta and that’s why I’m swayed.

I wanted one for years too, and got one this year. I love using it. Like pp it's an everyday bag.

Me too. Nothing else scratched my Mulberry itch and I wasted money on other good brands before giving in. My originals are still going strong decade later.

I did this too!! I’ve actually bought another one since this thread 😳

Lily is gorgeous, have it in 2 colours. A great size, goes with everything

I had wanted a Mulberry since I was 25. I finally got one from my parents when I was 40. It’s an Amberley and I love it. This year my mum bought me a YSL camera bag and while I do like it, I don’t love it in the same way as I love my Mulberry. The YSL feels a bit cheap in comparison to the craftsmanship of the Mulberry (even though it was twice the price!)

If anyone is interested the boiler went bang so my bag fund got used up but I got some insurance money back for the costs and bought the small Darley in oak and love it totally worth it.

I have a darley. It’s a lovely little bag. Glad you got what you wanted.

I have a Bayswater that I got in 2011 and it's still in great condition. Admittedly it's had less use the last couple of years but I got it out yesterday and remembered how much I loved it. I also have the mini Bayswater that I use as a crossbody and use regularly. My favourite bag at the moment is my YSL Niki that I have worn to death. I don't think mulberry are what they used to be but if it's your dream bag then get it. I'm currently coveting the Loewe puzzle bag which will likely be my next purchase.

I got the impression that quality has picked up again.

Oooh, what did you get?

I find this time of year with bag sales a real challenge to resist.

Feelingstrange2 · 29/12/2024 21:23

I bought a Mulberry Alexa in Apricot in the NY sale when I retired 2 years ago. Its still in its dust bag!

New years resolution is to use it!

Do I need to use the leather wax stuff first?

UpToonGirl · 29/12/2024 21:43

I've got a Lana, love it but I wish the strap was a bit longer as I like it cross body. I've also got a small (or mini? Can't remember) Iris, which I also love and wear more often than the Lana.

I'd say if you've always wanted one go for it, although they are now not so 'current'. I will say I don't think they are any better quality than my Coach bags, which also seems to be shooting up in price.

I've still got a North South Bayswater on my list but then, I'm not particularly fashionable.

I'm not sure we have apricot in the UK. Is that our chestnut?

I purchased my first mulberry this year. I got a mulberry pink Bayswater tote. Then I got a mini zipped Bayswater in oak, followed by my dream bag of a small Bayswater in powder rose. I also got a lily in black in the cookie design. All the bags were preloved. I’ve also just bought my first brand new mulberry: a powder rose compact darley wallet. I’ve loved the mulberry brand since I first discovered it 7 years ago, aged 17.
@Andanotherone01 interesting to hear you don’t find the YSL bag as good quality. I have a ysl on my wish list but not 100% sure now

Those sound wonderful. How do you find colour transfer with the powder rose?

Edited

Thankfully, I haven’t had any issue with colour transfer. I tend to wear lighter colours anyway and rarely wear denim.

I have a few Mulberry bags and hardly used them as they're not the most practical and I don't use them much. They Bayswater is nice but it's heavy and not big enough for work (for me). The hobo bags are nice design but I have bags I prefer.

I have a few Osprey bags as I think they're good quality and reasonably priced so I don't mind overloading them for work.

I used to always want a Chanel but they're obviously a different price point and I don't even think they're as nice as they used to be. I'd be too scared to use them because of how much they cost.

Sorry about your boiler OP!

Iamblossom · 30/12/2024 18:36

I have a Roxanne and I absolutely love it

Definitely not chestnut. I'll see if I can find it - maybe it was called something else. Looks like apricot tho!

Yep, just found my invoice. It's Apricot.

"Alexa

Apricot Small Classic Grain Leather"

Bought in early 2023.

katystar · 30/12/2024 19:18

I definitely didn’t think I’d by getting a bag any time soon when the boiler went but thankfully we got so money back on the insurance so I went for it and have used it every day since. Already started saving for my next purchase.

There’s a lot to be said for getting what you want when it comes to bag purchases.

usually the joyless smug posters who shout “if I had £1k to spend on a bag, I’d buy a 50p bag for life then go on holiday!” Pop along on bag threads with their unshakable confidence that a bag is a waste of money but a (super cheap) holiday is not, but they have a point in that you could just use a bag for life to carry your stuff. So if you are buying a nice bag that makes you happy, always get the one which will actually make you happy (assuming you can afford it!), not something that’s not quite as happy making but a nice sensible choice.
