Can anyone style this dress for a cold, wet, Scottish wedding?

I’m venturing out of my comfort zone and have bought a dress that isn’t me to be a guest at a wedding.
Rainbow dress

I have gold flats also.

It’s going to be cold and wet on the day so I need to put some sort of top with it. But I don’t know what?

And I’ll need a bag?
Cost is an issue, cheaper the better at the moment.

Can anyone help? I’m just clueless and worried I’m gonna ruin the whole attempt at fashion by putting a shapeless black cardi with it

Wowww gorgeous dress!!

Will you be outside much?

First thought was cropped cream jacket (or maybe black?)

I'm not massively fashionable so don't know if that's on trend. But if it was cropped you'd still see the shape of the dress

I was in Tescos yesterday. I've never bought any item of clothing in Tesco before, but I was walking through the clothing aisle and they had pale champagne-gold-coloured satiny bomber jackets that looked very stylish. I was standing there thinking how great they'd look with jeans for the evening or over a little black dress when a woman came along and grabbed the last of my size. I could have cried. Tesco don't advertise their stock online, but if you're near one of the larger stores check it out in the morning.

Oh I love that colour combination. Like sepia rhubarb.

You're brave to style a bandeau puffball for the cold though!

How do you know it will definitely be cold and wet? * *

I live in Scotland so feel I can authoritatively say "If it's this year there is a very good chance it will be cold and wet". I would think, however, it is unlikely you'll be outside much. Where is the wedding?

Google style a bandeau dress for winter. Layer a complementary long sleeve jacket top under it. Make it intentional.
I wear thermals under dresses to make them suitable for a cold venue.

I live in Scotland too. It's definitely not always cold and wet.

I think something like this but not in white or cream, possibly a khaki, taupe or pink..

Oh I LOVE this with that dress, I think I’d be inclined to wear it with ankle boots though (and then my husband would tell me I look insane and I’d have to find something else at the last minute 😉)

Its going to look great.

mamaison · 24/08/2024 07:14

I agree a fur type jacket like the ones above. As they are often only bought for special occasions, there are loads on the eBay and Vinted in perfect condition.

I also like the sound of the gold satin bomber but I think you will have to work harder to get the colour match right with the shoes.

The dress is beautiful!

Cheeesus · 24/08/2024 07:18

I think you need to pull out one of the colours of the dress.
Is this the right peach? I’m not sure.

I think any fluffy, furry cardigan will be good if you can get the colour right. I would avoid feather from an animal welfare point of view.

I wear thermals under anything all winter so I would say thermals but I'm not sure that would work with the bandeau top. Sooo, cashmere wrap.

This gold sequined top is a shocker. I ordered it. Really cheap material - and you probably wouldn't want to walk to close to a flame in it.....

FarFarAwayB · 24/08/2024 08:28

What about a warm, fluffy long scarf? Cream or rhubarb colour, You could wear it like a shawl and/or if that gets too hot, as a sash (use a safety pin in the Scottish style? As money is tight, check out your local charity shops. Good luck and enjoy the wedding! Once the ceilidh starts you’ll be warm I promise!

I'd guess because it's Scotland!

Love the furry jacket suggested by @Plump82

Hmmm, it's currently warm, sunny and slightly breezy in my part of Scotland.
