Can anyone style this dress for a cold, wet, Scottish wedding?

I’m venturing out of my comfort zone and have bought a dress that isn’t me to be a guest at a wedding.
Rainbow dress

I have gold flats also.

It’s going to be cold and wet on the day so I need to put some sort of top with it. But I don’t know what?

And I’ll need a bag?
Cost is an issue, cheaper the better at the moment.

Can anyone help? I’m just clueless and worried I’m gonna ruin the whole attempt at fashion by putting a shapeless black cardi with it

I’d say that whatever you wear needs to be cropped well above the waist to work. I’d go for more of a shrug/bolero, this kind of thing…..

That would be perfect

I'd guess because it's Scotland!

Love the furry jacket suggested by @Plump82

Yeah because we never get sunshine or anything

Ffs what a ridiculous answer 🙄

Where I live it has. I live in Scotland.

Just shows then you can't generalise

Try a shawl or fake pashmina, very warm and cheap in markets and Asian dress shops, or a simple, new, shorter lace, crochet type cardigan (currently loads in summer sales) saw a nice one in primark, twenty quid. No one will know, or care after the first hour. I have a down jacket which, scrunched up in a stuff sack is about the size of a bag of cheesy wotsits. I always take it to weddings then, when sitting a garden, or round a bonfire or on a beach, done all in the evenings of weddings, I can be warm. It's a great dress, enjoy the day. Anyone you know can lend you a gold clutch to go with your sandals? Try charity shops other wise.

I’d go cashmere wrap. Easy to wrap around you or knot casually over a handbag strap on the off chance it’s sunny

I live in Scotland so feel I can authoritatively say "If it's this year there is a very good chance it will be cold and wet". I would think, however, it is unlikely you'll be outside much. Where is the wedding?

Oh that sounds so depressing! I’ve been to 30-40 Scottish weddings in the past couple of years and it’s only rained at one!

This summer seems to have been particularly gloomy but perhaps it's just how I'm feeling. It's been rare to wake up and think it will be nice all day.

I would look for a chocolate brown faux fur jacket to go with that and a clutch bag in brown too. Thai will give it a nice rich autumnal feel

JamAndJuice · 25/08/2024 18:44

A black cropped leather jacket and maybe black ankle boots. (and the summer in Scotland has been absolutely awful!)

Crazykefir · 25/08/2024 20:02

Cropped jacket. Chunky heels and tights- which you can take off if it's sunny.
I saw a woman wearing a long sleve top under a dress as was the fashion in the 90s, sheer long-sleeved top under the dress could work.
