Casual work wear

Starting new job in the media industry. Jeans trainers etc are allowed. Please could you give me some ideas on outfits for the office?

I'm 36, 5'6, size 12-14. Broad shoulders so don't like high necklines or anything boxy. Hips and legs narrow. Help 😅

You don’t say which area of ‘the media industry’ but the BBC is reputedly studiously casual. Presumably if you were presenting you’d have a stylist, but I think everyone else is supposed to look as if the very latest mainstream, mid-range clothing just falls onto them each morning.

I’m a lecturer in a media subject - 5ft 6, size 10/12. I wear black jeans to work most of the time, either Levi’s “baggy dad” or 90s 501. I have a good selector of trainers, mainly Adidas, then on top in A/W it will be things like a white tee with a cardi or a knit. I sometimes wear a midi dress with trainers (and opaque tights in colder weather), and at the moment just back after summer I am wearing a lot of wide-leg pj type trousers in stripes or gingham. I do three days on campus, one at home, and only work four, so I only need three “office outfits” a week.

At the mo I am wearing oversized denim jackets (Levi’s) or a light quilted jacket (Hush via Depop), but can’t wait to get into my leather jackets (H&M and Whistles) again.

I mainly shop in Cos, Arket, &OS, Monki. Sometimes find nice things in Oliver Bonas, and odd bits in H&M. Zara doesn’t work for me but I know most people love it. I always have painted nails, red lipstick, good hair (blunt bob with a fringe) so even in casual clothes I look “polished”. I tend to wear a crossbody bag (again Cos and Arket) then carry a tote with my laptop/lunch/associated junk in it (currently a very cute stripy one that came as a gift in a Sezane order).
