What clothes are you buying for autumn?

I have spent the past four months in cut off jeans and two summer dresses but yesterday's cold weather made me realise I need some new clothes for autumn/winter.

I know nothing about clothes/fashion and tend to just get my cues from what I see others wearing. I'd love to know what everyone else is getting.

I'm 50, FWIW, and work in a fairly casual office and need clothes for both work and home as for various reasons I didn't have anything new last year.

Please inspire me with what you're buying!

I want a couple of nice skirts to go with tights and biker boots. I'm not into fashion in the slightest so trying to find some quirky non-high street looks that won't break the bank.

What sort of style are you after?

Grungy/hippy but for over 40s.

I just bought some amazing nubuck grey leather justin rees ankle boots to replace my purple clarkes ones which finally gave up after 8 years. £85. I got them for £29!

I got the last pair too thanks to a friend sending me the link.

I'm toying with this cardigan at John Lewis:

Nice colour but not sure I'd look like a model in it...

This is nice. I have one in a similar style in a dusky rose colour that I got from cos about 5 years ago and it is my most-worn item of knitwear

Tights, boots and a leopard print skirt to go with the gorgeous gold sweater DH bought me for my birthday 😀

Are the bias cut slip skirts still everywhere? I love mine. I've also just learned. to sew them and have made a leopard print one.

You need to be size tiny to wear those. I need something a bit more earth mothery that can be styled other ways really.

I need a decent pair of black ankle boots & a long Autumn/Winter coat. Lost nearly 3 stone so am able to emerge from years of living in black leggings & baggy tops. I have some great dresses called Magic dresses from The Woodland Gift Co online. They flatter all shapes & fit sizes 10 to 20. Definitely going to buy some for Autumn. Also need a black cardigan to go with everything!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/08/2024 23:27

@Bettyboughtabitofbitterbutter I'm not tiny, but I find they work quite well on me anyway, providing I get the top half right.

@Perfectlystill I've had an email saying White Company is 20% off everything in store for the bank holiday weekend.

Thank you so much! I am hoping to get down there later this weekend!

GreatDarkWing

Thank you, you are very kind.
I have always liked the idea of a cropped (waist length) jumper, but I am very long bodied, and what is cropped to most people would look as if it had shrunk on me.
I am thinking that I may have to go for a thin silky roll neck (could tuck that in!) with a longer cardi over it.

Rina66 · 25/08/2024 13:41

Yesterday I bought a tie front red cardigan (I know it's not wool but I wanted soft with no itch) black block heel ankle boots that I can wear out out but still be comfortable due to square toe, grey/black boyfriend jeans (got the blue and love them) and a fine knit black and cream stripe jumper.......Summer for me is officially over!

Thank you! I'll have a proper look and try some on.

TroysMammy · 25/08/2024 13:54

None because after losing 1 3/4 stone the clothes I kept "just in case I can get back into them again" now fit.

DustyLee123 · 25/08/2024 13:55

Tan suede is in, apparently. So I won’t be buying any.

Aproductofmyera80s · 25/08/2024 22:27

I brought a new jacket in the sales as mine was broken, it was the same one thankfully as mine was bloody brilliant, but other than that I’ll be wearing my usual trackies or chinos(for events) and hoodies 🤭

SunshineonLeaves · 26/08/2024 11:36

I’m really loving the red and leopard print that’s everywhere, something red would pull a lot of my wardrobe together - as a pp said it goes with so much.

SunshineonLeaves · 26/08/2024 13:43

@EmeraldIsla there’s a red Jigsaw city coat in the Next clearance section, size 16 - not sure what size you are looking for.

Unfortunately that’s the shorter one - it’s the maxi I’m after - or that would have been perfect and nabbed immediately. Thank you for pointing it out, worth a try!

Im def feeling the autumn vibes at the moment. Came out of Primark with nothing but jumpers!😆
got a mink sweater vest, beige and white stripe thin knit v neck, beige short sleeved cropped jumper and a thin v necked navy cardigan (coz Im always on the look out for a cheap basic cardie and it was only £4).

GreatDarkWing · 26/08/2024 20:01

This thread was dangerous...I got all excited about autumn clothes and got yet another pair of corduroy trousers (https://www.albaray.co.uk/products/cord_trouser_aw23 these ones). Planning to wear them with black boots or some red Esska ones DH bought me a couple of Christmases ago.

Cord Wide Leg Cropped Trousers

Crafted from a soft cord with a touch of stretch these trousers are designed with a cropped wide leg. Featuring  two front pockets  and two back pockets. 98% Organic Cotton 2% Spandex Inside leg measures 66cm (size 10)

Last winter I was mildly obsessed with the clothes worn by Claudia Winkelman in the traitors. So a navy velvet trouser suit, the parka from sweaty betty and a nice tweed coat with a nipped in waist are on my list. I bought some stunning boots last year and I can’t wait to blow the dust off them. Love winter clothes. Adore a polo
neck. Love a bit of velvet. Bring it on I say!

Oooh liking the
‘AllSaints camo leopard shacket’

DancingNotDrowning · 27/08/2024 20:46

I’m after a couple of outfits for evenings out.

I have day dressing sorted perfectly for work and casual but seem to be totally lost as to what to wear on an evening
