Dress alteration help

Hi all,

after feeling crap after having a baby my partner bought me a really gorgeous dress that was quite expensive for an event we went to. However I had to get a bigger size because my boobs are massive from breastfeeding. I’ve now lost more weight and the dress is one that is tight at the waist and then flares out like a ‘teddy girl’ style. It is now too big on my waist back and shoulders, meaning that it gapes underneath the armpits too. Is it possible to have a dress altered by 1/2 dress sizes whilst keeping the bust size the same? To add to the dilemma it buttons at the front and then has a line of embellishment running vertically down each side of the buttons…if that makes sense! I’m nervous about getting it altered as it’s the most expensive dress I own 😫

Does it have side seams? Sleeves?

A picture of the dress would be really helpful

I'd say it's possible, i'd take it in at the side seams so narrowing the back but not the front. Just not sure about the sleeves. I'd take it to a dress maker.

Go on a local Facebook page and ask for recommendations for a dressmaker. I saw one a few weeks ago, the lady got a really good response.

I think looking at the photo the sleeves are supposed to be slightly dropped so maybe leave those alone. I’ve found a local seamstress who does wedding dresses and has good recommendations to have a look at it
