Hi all,

Not your typical wedding guest dress, but I don't really do long flowery numbers. Just wondering if this one looks ok? I could style it up with statement shoes/bag.

Thanks all. :)

Nope , not appropriate.

NewGreenDuck · 19/08/2024 14:34

No. Wrong colour, too short, looks like you are trying to upstage the bride. Sorry.

Theroller · 19/08/2024 14:36

I think it’s too short tbh, I would be worried about it showing my pants especially in the blustery English weather!

Edited to say I do have nice slim legs as per pp comment and I would still think that’s too short! Weddings have a lot of standing around outside.

CurbsideProphet · 19/08/2024 14:46

So called statement guest dresses for weddings can seem a bit "look at me". My now MIL wore all black when DH and I got married 😂 and so many people noticed and mentioned it to me after the event 😂

jannier · 19/08/2024 14:48

Are you going clubbing after? If not no I wouldn't.

MissyB1 · 19/08/2024 14:52

When you sit on that freezing cold church pew, that dress will ride up even shorter. Your legs will have goosebumps and everyone will have a nice view of your knickers. Other than that yeah fine 😂

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 19/08/2024 15:25

Too short for a wedding and a funeral too. It's a lovely cocktail dress but not for a country wedding at a normal time of day. Black tie evening event you might just get away with it with a floor length coat for church.

Sparkletastic · 19/08/2024 16:23

No not the right choice for a wedding guest outfit.

That green Reiss one someone linked up thread is glorious though.

Mynewnameis · 19/08/2024 16:25

Too short, cold (legs) and too black. Great for a party, not a church wedding.

BCBird · 19/08/2024 16:27

I'd say no, because of colour and length. Northumberland I September will be freezing.

OneBadKitty · 19/08/2024 16:30

I'd think you will look a bit out of place in an old chapel in Northumberland in that. If you're going to the evening do is there any way you can wear something else for the ceremony and reception, and then change into the little black dress for the evening disco?

FlyingontheGround · 19/08/2024 16:31

I think you would be fine to wear that.

Not black for a wedding!

starfishmummy · 19/08/2024 16:32

Evening party but not the daytime IMHO

BlastedPimples · 19/08/2024 16:54

It's a lovely dress but not for wedding. Navy would be fine.

promoteornot · 19/08/2024 17:53

I love it. But like others have said, not for a wedding. Also think pink accessories or a 'pop of colour' will cheapen it.

Lindtnotlint · 19/08/2024 18:05

Great dress. Bad choice for a chapel wedding: too black, too short, too mesh, too party. It’s not right. I am very much of the view that you should wear wtf you want and not get bound up in convention, but if you wear that people will think you don’t “get it” about what the conventions of wedding wear are (rather than thinking, yeah cool original style).

LaSourciereEfrontee · 19/08/2024 18:07

I like the shape of the dress, it looks cool.

Westminster registry office, maybe.
Knees up above a pub in Walthamstow, sure.
Chapel wedding in Northumberland, absolutely not. And pretty disrespectful.

It’s a party dress. Keep it for a party, not a religious ceremony.

sausawyee · 19/08/2024 20:55

It looks like a cocktail dress.

Hopefully this won't happen to you.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 19/08/2024 21:01

I think you'll be fine and I love it. May I ask how the sizing is? Hadn't heard of this brand.

PolkaStripeShirt · 19/08/2024 21:06

The bra situation would bother me. Would a strapless bra work?

mitogoshi · 19/08/2024 21:20

Too short, and black is a no no. In a chapel especially

mitogoshi · 19/08/2024 21:23

And I say that as someone who is getting married and is very laid back about dress codes. I'd rather someone in jeans and a gig t shirt to be honest, that dress is so "look at me I'm cool"

dazzlingdeborahrose · 20/08/2024 19:08

Torn. Love the dress and it can definitely be dressed for a wedding. Yes, Northumberland can be chilly but we often get a bit of a warm spell in September. Context is everything. If by chapel you mean somewhere like Woodhill or Brinkburn Priory, you'll be fine. If it's an actual functioning, practicing chapel, I'm not so sure.
