What would you do with hair like this for a big occasion?

Firstly this isn't me, it's a photo I found when googling for ideas. But the hair style and length is very similar to mine.
I'm trying to decide what to do with my hair for a special event. Not a wedding but similar dress code hence searching for MoB hairdos. Don't want an up do, they really don't suit me, but want something more special than this pic. Need to give my hairdresser some ideas else I'll come out looking like I usually do
My hair isn't very thick and doesn't have a lot of body on its own, but am guessing products can help with that.

there’s very little you can do with short hair bar a fascinator, is there.

Look through red carpet photos, some very fashionable actresses slick it back “wet look” but away from Hollywood I think it’s just look like you’d stepped out of the shower.

I know @Abdominaplastied, hence my post. Was hoping someone with similar hair or a wedding party type hair stylist might have some ideas. Not keen on the slicked back look myself
