Secondary shoes recommendations

Any help would be much appreciated!
Dd starts year 7 and we are struggling to find suitable shoes. She has a wide foot and really high instep so we always struggle to find shoes- she can't wear boots or shoes with a strap across the top and ballet flats are also a no go.
New school is very strict on shoes so I bought her plain lace up Dr Martens, which she loves but can't even get on. Normally we try clarks and she has to pick whatever pair fit but had no luck this year. Next, Marks and Spencer and Deichmann are variable in fit and inevitably fall apart.
She isn't very 'girly' and ideally would like brogue style or chunky loafers. Can anyone recommend anything suitable please? She will have a bit of a walk each day so waterproof and long lasting is essential!

Try schuh kids school shoes. They had lovely brogues and loafers.

Try Angry Angels by Start-Rite. My daughter has the patent lace-up shoes and they are lovely and very comfortable.

Have a look on Next, they have loads of styles so I would be surprised if you couldn't find something suitable.

Have you got an independent shoe shop near you? I would google and see if there’s one within a reasonable distance - I find I get a decent choice of brands and styles. DD2 has wide feet and often has Petasil (although has Startright for next year.)

Clarks Brogues? They lace up, and have wide fit.

What size feet? My dd had brogues from the Clarks ladies range rather than from the children's section

doggybootcamp · 13/08/2024 07:43

Thanks. She's a size 2-2.5.
We only have a Clark's outlet nearby but I may try that again. I have always found next don't last very long (for older dc, haven't yet found any to fit!) and the only start rite stockist within reach is inside John Lewis with a really small range.
I'll see what I can find nearby from recommendations, thanks

I'd go to an actual Clarks if you have only tried an outlet one. Maybe you need to go further afield to somewhere with a proper startrite range,

M&S usually have a big clompy brogue but I can't see it being wider than the DM. Have you been to the DM shop? They are pretty helpful.

I think you might be right- an actual Clarks, Dr Marten or larger shop that sells Start Rite is at least an hours drive but I might have to suck it up!
Her feet aren't excessively wide, it's more the high instep that makes it hard to get the shoe on in the first instance- most trainers are fine because she can undo the laces really far to get her foot in and then retie and that's comfortable.
