Skinny jeans?

Are they ever ok? I'm about to go on a holiday that requires a winter wardrobe, and I'm struggling with wide jeans. I look so boxy. I love an oversized jumper or shirt and they only seem to work with slim legs.
Any ideas?

If you like them, then wear them. I wear what I like and suits me, not what is dictated to me as fashionable.

HamSad · 11/08/2024 07:54

Of course they are! Don't waste time worrying about what MN randoms think

WearsblackLoveschocolateAvoidspeople · 11/08/2024 08:02

I feel the same as you, I posted similar a while ago and got myself some baggier/wide legged ones but they just don’t look right on me.

I’ve gone back to skinnies. They suit my body type and when you look around there are actually many people still wearing them.

I’m looking forward to Autumn, skinnies and oversized jumpers/sweatshirts/shirts.

KatyaKabanova · 11/08/2024 08:07

I see a lot of young women wearing them still, usually white or pale denim, with a crop top or Bardot top. They look nice.

mellongoose · 11/08/2024 08:20

I keep trying other styles but they just make me look rubbish. Skinny jeans show that I have a figure and just look better, so I keep going back to them.

dementedpixie · 11/08/2024 08:21

I never stopped wearing skinny jeans. Other styles don't suit me

KatyaKabanova · 11/08/2024 08:29

If you look good, you'll feel good. Just wear a style that suits you.

greengreyblue · 11/08/2024 08:31

When you say skinny do you mean the skin tight ones? How about just straight jeans or a different fabric altogether? I have some narrow cargo trousers that are great .

BarryKentPoet · 11/08/2024 08:32

I'm short and slightly dumpy, wide leg and Mom jeans look awful on me! I'm sticking to my skinnies because I feel great in them.

Covetthee · 11/08/2024 08:39

i think towards winter Skinnies are more ‘in’

tbh i know everyone says they are out but generally in shops, all I bloody see is skinny jeans!

straight/slim is always a classic as well if that works for your body type.

Drogdab · 11/08/2024 08:48

They are back anyway.

isthismylifenow · 11/08/2024 08:49

Where are you going ?

I read here all the time about people who wouldn't be seen in skinnies anymore.

It's not what I am seeing though. It's winter where I am and skinnies are definitely alive and well. Even with the youngsters.

I don't understand the hate. The Levi shop I went into recently still had more skinny styles than any other.

Friyay27 · 11/08/2024 10:03

I just find it SO hard to move away from them, and I think this 'look' still works?

Honestly the great thing at the moment is the choice of jeans shapes. For a while skinny was so dominant it was hard to get anything else.

Skinny still looks good and I would say wear it if it works for you/with tops and jackets you already have.

You could always try straight/slim leg for a something that isn’t quite as skin tight but is still easy to wear with boots/oversized tops.

Singlepringle1980 · 11/08/2024 10:25

I’m the same! I have got a couple of pairs of slim slightly cropped jeans now that are just as flattering but feel more modern. Zara have lots of nice slim styles but I mostly live in their skinnies. I’m curvy so wide legged styles make me look far too wide and masculine 🤣

TheYearOfSmallThings · 11/08/2024 10:38

Just wear them. I know other styles look more now, but I frequently see women looking amazing in skinny jeans.

Friyay27 · 11/08/2024 12:02

I like the way I look in the photo, so I guess I'm overthinking it !

OP posts:
greengreyblue · 11/08/2024 12:07

The way you’ve styled them looks good OP. I think all styles go these days.

isthismylifenow · 11/08/2024 14:22

You look amazing in this pic OP.

Don't change anything. You look good and feel good. Number 2 is the most important in my book.

Normallynumb · 11/08/2024 16:34

I'll never stop wearing them
They suit my small frame and I couldn't stand wide legs flapping around my ankles! I'm 59
Wear whichever cut works for you

henlake7 · 11/08/2024 17:38

I notice nobody is saying 'I live in barrel leg jeans!'.....they dont seem to be all that popular😄

Skinnies are def here to stay and they are the most flattering cut on some people.
Im not one of those people as I find it difficult to squeeze my ginormous calves into them! Wide legged are much more flattering on me.
(but if its absolutely pissing down then wide legged trousers are completely useless and skinnier are better).

WhisperTree · 11/08/2024 17:39

If skinny jeans are your jam, wear them. I started wearing them because of school run cycling (didn't want to have to remember bicycle clips or risk getting caught in the chain), and see no reason to buy baggy/00s/'mom' jeans just because the industry says 'all change.' Different cuts suit different body types and, indeed, lifestyles.
