Swarovski - is it good?

Husband wants to buy me a piece of jewelry for my 50th birthday. I'm not a huge jewelry wearer, so it won't be worn every day. We're not loaded, so it won't be diamonds or anything. I've been looking at Swarovski pendants, and I love some of them. Are they good quality, and will they last? Will they turn my neck black? I just don't want him to spend his hard-earned cash on something that quickly loses its sparkle. Any insights you have would be appreciated!

Swarovski is a crystal so won't turn your neck black. You need a 9ct gold chain which won't tarnish or if you prefer silver make sure it's 925 sterling silver. 925 sterling will require cleaning to avoid discolouration over time.

I don't have any experience of stainless steel jewellery but perhaps someone else will.

I have a couple of things from swarovski. They are not 'fine' jewellery because they are are either gold or silver plated but in that costume jewellery market they are Ok and i haven't had any problems with them. I have a rose gold plated earrings, necklace and bracelet set which i only wear occasionally, not every day but it has stayed as new and not tarnished, and a pair of crystal silver rhodium plated earrings which I wear now and again which i the had about 10 years and they are still sparkly.

However, if you want a piece of jewellery to wear eery day at a reasonable cost I would choose a piece from a brand which is solid sterling silver which will last indefinitely.

It's not my taste, but it's a long established company, sterling silver does oxidise (gets darker) but cleans easily or you can store it in a sealed bag when not in use

I’ve got a couple of pairs of earrings from there, really nice sparkles, clean up well and haven’t tarnished or turned my ears green! Bought in sales/on prime day it’s good value, at full price it’s a little bit expensive for what it is (but nowhere near as overpriced as Pandora or those hideous nomination bracelets IMO)

I love my single-stone necklace. Ive had it for years. Still sparkly and worn every day

Yes the crystals themselves are fine, I've had a pale green star pendant for at least 20 years that looks like new.
