Sensory friendly bra - does such a thing exist?

I literally cannot stand bras. Honestly, they ruin my day when I have to wear one. Believe me when I say I have been fitted for them properly but it's no good. I'm 40 years old and have hated them my entire life.

I cannot stand the feel of the straps, the clips at the back, the under-band, the restriction, the way they squeeze my back fat. Urghhh.

I have a similar hatred of tights, certain fabrics etc and always have. I definitely have sensory issues.

I have lived in Sloggi Zero feel bra-tops, which are the closest thing to a bra that I can tolerate. But they seem to be being discontinued as they never come back into stock in my size.

Also, if I'm honest, I don't think they always give me enough support. I am a size 16 and whilst my boobs aren't huge, they do need more support in some clothes. Last time I measured they were a D cup.

I have tried Molke bras and found them torturous and as bad as normal bras. My idea would be a pull on bra (as I cannot stand the back clips either) but one that gives support. I have tried many others in the Sloggi range but they aren't very supportive.

I am aware I sound weird 🤣 Any suggestions?

I hate them too. I don't think you can really have it both ways. I'm liking Next crop tops at the moment. I wish I could just have an easier body to dress, it's such a hassle

They have those bras on qvc U.K. just now in your size and a choice of four different colours for £36 and the v neck version for £39.

It does seem like a hell of a lot of money for what they are though.

My friend lived in a secret support M&S vest top for years as she didn't like bras either not her busy wasn't as big so not sure if that'd suit you.

The trouble with a big bust has little support is that everything flops to the side and makes people look a bit sloppy and fatter than they are. You can tell who has an underwired bra on and who does not.

Lookingoutside · 09/08/2024 09:25

Have a look at Manners London OP. They have amazing tops which are designed to support you.

IdLikeToBeAFraser · 09/08/2024 09:27

What is your actual bra size? If you aren't massive, what about a cropped top/bra let type thing? Actually, even relatively large breasts, depending on shape can work with that - I have one which is a bit small now as I have gained weight but when it fitted, it was a sensory nightmare to get on... but once it was on, it was almost invisible to my senses. If I had smaller breasts, I woukd literally just do crop top style ones - sortnof calvin klein style - as theybare stretchier and easy to get on too. At home I regularly just wear tightish cotton vests to stop the jiggling around but it's not enough support for out and about. I am a size 38F or 38FF

I keep getting ads for lemonade doll bras which claim to do exactly what you're after, but I've never tried them and they are quite expensive imo. You could have a look though.

LunaNorth · 09/08/2024 09:29

Watching with interest. I’m getting less tolerant of boob cages the older I get.

Eeepsh · 09/08/2024 09:42

Have a look at post surgery mastectomy bras - they are designed to be very soft and non constricting. They have pockets for prosthetics but obviously can be worn without.

BananaLambo · 09/08/2024 09:46

I am of large boo age and I have these:

While I wouldn’t go jogging in them they’re soft and supportive enough for the house/going to the shops, etc. They’re also a bargain.

I have the same sensory type issues. Can't wear tight things, hate anything harsh on my skin Grin

M and s has some modal crop tops. I actually find the flexifit bras more comfortable in this range (as the clips bother me less than the tightness) but from your description, you may like these more.

I miss being really skinny, and getting away with wearing wireless bralettes when out

AnnaMagnani · 09/08/2024 09:53

I'd measure again using Boob or Bust as any bra will be uncomfortable in the wrong size. A D cup is a v small cup size so if you are squishing back fat, you more than likely have bigger boobs.

Cantonet · 09/08/2024 10:32

I have similar issues.
I now wear Boody bras made from Breathable Bamboo Viscose.
No fastenings or straps & they're pull on styles. I'm a 34 DD - size 14 & in a large.

Treatyourself · 09/08/2024 10:49

I have the same issue.

I've just bought some M&S flexifit bras, non wired and go up to bigger cup sizes.

Also bought some crop tops from Next and a Pour Moi lounge bra.

No idea why I didn't do this years ago. Sooooo much better and don't feel like I want to rip my bra off after an hour.

Yes, I find the flexifit ones v comfortable too. And they're great for everyday. they don't give quite the support/look I would prefer but I wear them a lot for day to day.

LividCovid · 09/08/2024 10:54

Try Molke.

Mine are massive and there are no crop tops in my size but Molke are super comfy.

Precipice · 09/08/2024 10:57

I'd measure again using Boob or Bust as any bra will be uncomfortable in the wrong size.

BoB method gave me 30D. I absolutely cannot stand any 30 bra. OP lists a whole line of discomfort issues, but for me the biggest one is the feeling of the underband. BoB (and 'proper sizing') is based upon a smaller band and a larger cup, since the band is meant to be the support. Even a 34 I usually feel against my ribs; I would not be able to stand a 30 at any price. The size might be 'right' according to measurements, while unbearable for the wearer, which makes it the wrong size in practice.

Good luck, OP. My breasts are smaller, but I've been using Sloggi Zero Feel like you, but one of the bralette kinds. It's also being discontinued, in favour of a different bralette kind, which I found too tight and uncomfortable when I tried it on in-store. The material isn't nice for me (I don't otherwise wear synthetics at all, but I can't find a similar 'minimal feeling' bra in cotton), especially now that it's hot, but I'm not so aware of it over my ribs. But it's still a relief when I can take it off again and for the ease of doing that, I'm not trying anything over the head.

I wear uniqlo bra tops. They are fab. I'm a 16 and wear xl. The strappy camisoles are comfy.

Oceangreyscale · 09/08/2024 12:55

I keep recommending this - Decathlon dynamic yoga bra. So comfortable even for larger sizes. Pull on, stretchy fabric.

Aintnosupermum · 09/08/2024 12:56

My daughter has autism and is sensitive to underwear and clothing. The front zip sports bras work well for her. I buy them here in the US from Athleta as cheaper than sweaty Betty.

Octavia64 · 09/08/2024 12:58

Second Uniqlo bra tops. Genuinely amazing and I have big boobs.

Same issue as the OP and Lemonade Dolls did nothing for me. Comfortable but zero (zero zero) support. Not flattering at all.

Jellycats4life · 09/08/2024 13:04

I find the stretchy crop tops that come with removable cup padding are really supportive. Sainsbury’s do loads.

This for example:

Lemonade keeps popping up for me, they seem the right sort of thing!
