Sensory friendly bra - does such a thing exist?

I literally cannot stand bras. Honestly, they ruin my day when I have to wear one. Believe me when I say I have been fitted for them properly but it's no good. I'm 40 years old and have hated them my entire life.

I cannot stand the feel of the straps, the clips at the back, the under-band, the restriction, the way they squeeze my back fat. Urghhh.

I have a similar hatred of tights, certain fabrics etc and always have. I definitely have sensory issues.

I have lived in Sloggi Zero feel bra-tops, which are the closest thing to a bra that I can tolerate. But they seem to be being discontinued as they never come back into stock in my size.

Also, if I'm honest, I don't think they always give me enough support. I am a size 16 and whilst my boobs aren't huge, they do need more support in some clothes. Last time I measured they were a D cup.

I have tried Molke bras and found them torturous and as bad as normal bras. My idea would be a pull on bra (as I cannot stand the back clips either) but one that gives support. I have tried many others in the Sloggi range but they aren't very supportive.

I am aware I sound weird 🤣 Any suggestions?

Asda ribbed pullover soft bras. They're like a sports bra but looser. I can't stand bras. I have one proper bra that I wear only for the benefit of my physiotherapist as he needs access to my back and its easier for him to unclip it rather than me strip off every session but otherwise I never ever wear anything else.

They're so much more comfy and I don't have huge boobs so they're plenty supportive.

No digging, no itching, nothing.

I have the same issue.

I've just bought some M&S flexifit bras, non wired and go up to bigger cup sizes.

Also bought some crop tops from Next and a Pour Moi lounge bra.

No idea why I didn't do this years ago. Sooooo much better and don't feel like I want to rip my bra off after an hour.

I wear the M&S Flexifit bras too and I nearly cried with relief when I first tried one on, it was so much more comfortable than anything I've ever worn.

Stressed91 · 09/08/2024 13:27

I am exactly the same, I hate wearing bra's. "Fortunately" I'm very flat chested and dont bother wearing them at all. I have no idea how I would cope if I needed to wear one for support

Do the M&S ones have much support/lift? I feel like I am looking for the holy grail!

Squiggles23 · 09/08/2024 13:31

I also came on to recommend the Uniqlo bra tops!

JulesJules · 09/08/2024 13:35

I also came on to recommend M&S Flexi fit bras, I have a couple of the pull on (or step in) ones and they are really comfortable. I can't tolerate wires etc since breast cancer surgery.

tothesea · 09/08/2024 13:37

I have similar issues although with smaller boobs. I cannot bear any kind of tight band and gave up on underwire decades ago. Have I found the holy grail supportive soft unrestricting bra in that time..eh no sorry.
However I have just tried the Uniqlo bra vest tops and although I can ‘feel’ the band it doesn’t feel tight. Double winner for me as I also have to be ‘tucked in’ to waistbands due to sensory issues ie can’t wear trousers or skirts without a vest top.
arggghhhh!

I'd measure again using Boob or Bust as any bra will be uncomfortable in the wrong size. A D cup is a v small cup size so if you are squishing back fat, you more than likely have bigger boobs.

BoB really isn't the answer to this sort of sensory issue.

Following because I'm the same OP. I'm still wearing the Sloggi zero feel bralettes and have had some luck tracking down sizes/colours on Amazon. I find they don't last very long though - a side seam failed completely on two of mine (they're bonded, not stitched).

Lemonade Dolls were terrible, no support and the size recommended for me was far too tight on the ribs.

Wanted to love Boody because of the natural fibres but found them really uncomfortable too.

Athena51 · 09/08/2024 16:42

I swear by Boody bras, I have the full bust, the racer back and the t-shirt bra. They are very soft, pull on, so no fastenings or back fat and they are supportive. They don't give a "uni-boob" effect either. I think they are great.

Nowanextraone · 09/08/2024 16:54

Thank you SO much for all the ideas so far! There seem to be some particularly hopeful ideas, especially the Manners London ones.

I really need to look into the M&S ones too, as they seem.pretty hopeful

I will order some Boody ones too!

I wear bra tops as I struggle with this too. If I'm in need of extra support the only bra I can bear is Uniqlo 3D hold bra- gives a good shape without underwire

Omg you are literally me - I am the same with needing to wear a vest top!!! I have NEVER met anyone else who does this!!

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 09/08/2024 16:57

I have recently discovered boody.
I've only tried the crop bra but I'm going back for the full bust wireless bra. They cater for bigger boobs although mine aren't massive.
I've also got several m&s flexifit nonwired. They can feel a bit warm in hot weather (synthetic foam cups, but very soft).
My main complaint is that the sizing is really inconsistent. I order a couple of the same size and keep the one that fits best. (There's been as much as an inch difference in band length).

And a single triumph padded balconette bra for special occasions!

Exactly the same with my sloggi ones - it's always the seams. So annoying as they aren't cheap.

Agreed about the BoB , it really isn't the answer for me. I've done it, and the torture I feel in any bra in my size shows it's a sensory issue rather than sizing. It's literally all I can think about

I cheat and buy bra back strap extenders. My bras all fit in theory but I love to extend the back strap out so it's almost practically flapping. I don't like anything tight against my skin. I have had a mastectomy so the bras I own have pockets to insert padding which I do. The padding ensure everything looks the right shape.

SweetLining · 09/08/2024 17:47

Have you tried Uniqlo? Either the tops with built in bra or this:

www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E464335-000/00?colorDisplayCode=31&sizeDisplayCode=004

Very comfy.

MissShapesMissStakes · 09/08/2024 18:02

Another vote for Boody.

Some offer more support than others, pull on, bamboo, and they wash really well.

Traditional bras are horrible!

Lisamari99 · 09/08/2024 18:06

i've seen ads for a bra from miss mary of sweden that looks a bit like a sports bra, but comfortable. would like to try it. usually wear shock absorber ones

No help to offer I'm afraid but just wanted to say thanks for letting me know about Sloggi, I've been looking for a comfy bra for ages and these sound perfect.

Angrymum22 · 09/08/2024 20:50

M&S flexifit are great. I had therauputic mammoplasty to remove breast cancer. My boob is a lovely shape but the procedure left me with an over sensitive nipple ( often you lose the feeling) and I can get swelling due to lymph node removal. They are the most comfortable bra and the fabric wicks away moisture so if you’re big boobed you don’t get sore in the crease.
I still have to take it off when I walk through the door though.

Mamma173738 · 09/08/2024 21:00

I wear yoga bras. They offer some support if you're not too big, and they are seamless and free of fastenings. They're so comfortable I forget I have them on home and I love to go bra-less at home.
