Sensory friendly bra - does such a thing exist?

I literally cannot stand bras. Honestly, they ruin my day when I have to wear one. Believe me when I say I have been fitted for them properly but it's no good. I'm 40 years old and have hated them my entire life.

I cannot stand the feel of the straps, the clips at the back, the under-band, the restriction, the way they squeeze my back fat. Urghhh.

I have a similar hatred of tights, certain fabrics etc and always have. I definitely have sensory issues.

I have lived in Sloggi Zero feel bra-tops, which are the closest thing to a bra that I can tolerate. But they seem to be being discontinued as they never come back into stock in my size.

Also, if I'm honest, I don't think they always give me enough support. I am a size 16 and whilst my boobs aren't huge, they do need more support in some clothes. Last time I measured they were a D cup.

I have tried Molke bras and found them torturous and as bad as normal bras. My idea would be a pull on bra (as I cannot stand the back clips either) but one that gives support. I have tried many others in the Sloggi range but they aren't very supportive.

I am aware I sound weird 🤣 Any suggestions?

Sweaty Betty have nice ones.

Same issue as the OP and Lemonade Dolls did nothing for me. Comfortable but zero (zero zero) support. Not flattering at all.

Same - I fell for the Lemonade PR and totally wasted my money. Zero support. Less than zero. And then even less.

Gettingbysomehow · 09/08/2024 21:16

I hate bras and only wear one when I go out. I'm DD. I wear the glamorise front fastner. It has hooks but at the front. Very soft with no wire, comfy and gives a good shape.
Glamorise have some comfy and supportive bras and bra let's.

I suffer with contact urticaria and can't bear anything tight against my skin. I'm on a bra mission and have bought about 18 in the last few months.

The winners so far have been these Asda ones for WFH days and when shape is less of an issue (the support is ok but you wouldn't jog in them) direct.asda.com/george/lingerie/bras/v-neck-seamfree-leopard-pull-on-bras-3-pack/GEM1084642,default,pd.html?cgid=D27M3G1C1

For a bit more shape the M&S Flexi fit have been the best so day, but not brilliant so I'm still hunting!

FriendsDrinkBook · 09/08/2024 21:28

I have the same issues op and can only wear the john lewis kaley t shirt bra , I buy it in a band size 1 bigger than I measure (whilst going down a cup size) and it works for me. Considering my needs and fussiness it's the best of a bad bunch.

I feel your pain though , I've tried all the supposedly comfort bra brands and they either offer no support at all or they just roll up around my ribcage.

These Asda ones are the most comfortable for me too! At only £15.00 for 3 they’re also excellent value.

They wash well and hold their shape. I wear them day and night and only ever wear a sports bra at the gym or an underwired one if I’m going ‘out out’

Grobblydog · 09/08/2024 21:40

Like all the other posters, I seem to have tried so so many different bras and every single one is wrong in a different way each time. EXCEPT for Organic Basics bras which I have been wearing for 2 years. They are incredibly soft and supportive and although pricey are so worth the money. uk.organicbasics.com/collections/all-womens-products

I find these are the bra equivalent of comfy slippers www.thebigbloomerscompany.co.uk/products/all-woman-pull-on-bra

I'm delighted with them, so much better than the expensive ones I've bought!

You dont sound weird. Its normal not to like bras. We are just conditioned to think we need to wear them and love them and spend money on them.
I just dont wear them. Yes, it does mean I have to watch what I wear but I dont have another choice as I really cant stand them.

I have dermographism and cholinergic urticaria! Thankfully I've found a medication that works but the itching before that... torture

Branleuse · 09/08/2024 22:39

Im going through a bra hating phase. I have been wearing a stretchy sports one by new balance. I have fairly big boobs at 34gg, so its a challenge, but i got it from tkmaxx in an xl and its lovely and comfy

GameOfJones · 10/08/2024 08:17

Regarding Molke.... I know you'd said you've already tried them but it could be worth trying a different size.

Boob or Bust puts me at a 34FF and I was recommend a size M Cosmic at Molke but they were SO uncomfortable I literally hated them. I gave them an email and they were really helpful and suggested I tried a Large Stellar size. Going up in the band from Medium to Large made all the difference and I now love them. They're the only bra I wear as I cannot bear thin straps or underwires. The support from the bra is still good.

bimblingabout · 10/08/2024 08:54

I think the BoB method is one of the reasons people think they hate all bras. This method really does not suit everyone. Considerations such as skin sensitivity, integrity, elasticity, dryness, reaction to heat etc should be considered. The old style of adding to the underbust measurements to give the band size has some merit here. And then you just need to work out cup size ( I look at sister sizes for this). But it's demoralising when people get evangelical about BoB. It's just a method! Surely the woman wearing the bra (or not) has the final say regarding what is comfortable to them?

Pixie2015 · 10/08/2024 09:02

I do like M&S angel range

Fudgetheparrot · 10/08/2024 09:42

Have you tried any nursing bras? I still wear a few of mine as they are so soft and comfy, they don’t really help your shape at all though. For that I wear m and s flexifit

Cant believe I used to force myself into underwire every day as a youngster. I hate it!

Packetofcrispsplease · 10/08/2024 09:49

Rosa Faia by Anita twin soft cup non wired bra is the comfiest one I’ve ever owned .
Yes it has the back fastening but that’s the way to get better support.
It has wide soft straps and soft fabric .
I bought one of these when i was desperate during covid restrictions , I was doing a LOT of dog walks for some distances wearing layers because it was cold .
I had been wearing a less expensive M&S non wired bra that wasn’t properly fitted because there was no one free to get me fitted when I bought it ( pre Covid restrictions)
The M& S bra actually rubbed me so badly I had broken the soft skin under the arm area and it was weeping 😳
I phoned an independent shop that I had bought from before as they were posting items out to customers in their usual size during Covid.
It was so very comfortable I bought another when I needed to go a long haul flight ( after all Covid restrictions lifted )

BurntBroccoli · 10/08/2024 10:02

I find the Sainsbury's crop top type good and quite supportive. They also don't have any labels that I need to cut off! I actually have to cut the labels off every bit of clothing as I just can't stand the feel of them.

BurntBroccoli · 10/08/2024 10:11

I also wear a few of my bras inside out due to the uncomfortable seams on the inside. There's often a very uncomfortable ridge where all the layers have been sewn together. Outside seams (for show) are nice and smooth.

aeso · 10/08/2024 10:16

A ‘D cup’ is unusually small for someone who is a dress size 16. Finding out your proper size will go a long way to helping the sensory issues - what’s the point in buying a wire-free/seamless/etc bra if you’re buying it in the wrong size?

I'm a 36D and have been measured all over the place. It's definitely not a size issue, it's a general bra issue lol.
I'm more a size 14 tbh but I usually go for a 16 as I hate tightness 😬 Aware I'm a weirdo 🤣

Not a weirdo op. I'm autistic and have similar feelings. I even learned to make my own clothes because shop bought never fit and feel the way I want.

dudsville · 10/08/2024 13:19

I hope your purchases turn up something suitable, but can I suggest changing what you wear as an alternative? Patterned fabrics and layering both help a lot. A friend and I, both on the spectrum, work with this pretty well. You do have to accept a degree of movement resulting from being free as opposed to in a bra. But the more I think about it I do think it's weird that we don't want body parts to move, it's all control pants, control tights, bras. That said, I do have bras. I wear the sloggi go all round to the gym, and some Triumph women's signature bras for moments when I don't want that movement. Today I'm in a cotton tank under a denim pinafore. No bra.

Could you also try a thin cotton vest under a bra if you have something smart to go to. Probably best in winter as it can get a bit hot!
