Polyester dress - paint?

Slightly odd question - I have a dress I'd like to wear to a wedding. The cut is perfect but the colour isn't flattering for me. It's made out of polyester (doesn't absorb water). The dyes I've seen online suggest they wouldn't work. I've seen polyester-specific fabric paint. Would it be ridiculous to paint the dress with fabric paint? How to do I change the colour sensibly?!

Rit make a dye for synthetic fabric....I haven't tried it though.

For attending a wedding l would worry that the paint would come off on your skin. I’d certainly want to test similar in a local pub to see what happens.

you can buy polyester dye online. The Rit one does need to be done at a high temperature I think, so might mean using a higher wash temperature than the dress label recommends. I used it a few years ago and I think it worked ok but I can't remember now. I think you need to buy a fixative for it as well otherwise it washes out. Double check the instructions to make sure you buy fixative if necessary

Polyester will make you sweat buckets if you wear it on a warm day! I had to stop wearing it or buying bedding with it in

It's hard work. You basically have to cook it in a large pan on the stove for ages. Stirring the whole time. Needs to be very hot too.
