Going to a wedding early Sept & need help!
Wedding is posh venue, we are just going to the evening. Couple getting married are quite a bit younger than us, so most guests will be too & they dress up (in a boohoo, tight dress, high shoes kind of way)
I am rapidly approaching 50, have had various health issues (and too many cakes) and have put on a lot of weight - size 22.
Don’t do tight, can’t really wear heels & generally feel a frump!
Help me find something to wear! Olive skin, almost black hair, short & round - prefer to cover arms & legs budget up to £200 (preferable less!) General style is kind of hippy dresses with sandals/dms! Hate chiffony mother of the bride stuff. Is there any hope 😂😭

Have a look at Poetry.
I bought three linen dresses in the sale, they're the sort you can really dress up or wear day to day.

A lot of the hope & ivy stuff is that chiffony layered/see through material (not sure what it’s called) don’t mind it on other people but it makes me look like a fat nan 😭
before today I’ve looked at - M&S, next, phase 8, Debenhams, very, monsoon, Boden, simply be, La redoute, John Lewis & probably a load of others! This really is desperation!

Also a lot of the colours I’ve seen are quite wishy washy - I’ve got olive skin & nearly black hair so too bland can make me look a bit dead! I’m sure you e all got a lovely picture of me in your head now 😂

Love this one https://www.simplybe.co.uk/shop/p/cz260

That last one is exactly what I mean with that weird thin material, I don’t know why very dressy dress is made of it!

The word you are looking for is polyester.😉It's why I can't do weddings. All the dresses are polyester.

Selkie again. This is one of my favourites - it's Van Gogh's starry sky! Would be spectacular with a big, sparkly blue gemstone necklace.

It’s a wedding reception, though?

Not a carnival, or a ball, or fancy dress …

Doesn't mean she's got to wear floral polyester chiffon 😁

You’re going to have a hard time getting what you want. Virtually everything is polyester or polyester viscose! What material do you have in mind?

Floaty chiffon in a midi/maxi length is very slimming!

nancy75 · 07/08/2024 18:17

Thank you all for your efforts - I know I really am a pain & don’t like anything! This kind of thing is so far out of my comfort zone - I feel like everything is too dressy/not dressy enough or just going to look frumpy on a short round person!

Think you’ve misinterpreted my meaning, @Garlicfest! (I posted my suggestions earlier.)
