Hat etiquette help!

My son is marrying a lovely Canadian girl - in Canada. Wedding is at 4:30 PM followed by reception at same venue. In Canada women tend to wear gowns which the Mother of the bride is wearing - so no hat. I am not wearing a gown and my outfit would look so much better with a fascinator or hat. Would it be poor form for me to wear one? The wedding is funded by the bride and groom.

A fascinator yes, but not a hat. Have a fab time and congratulations to the happy couple.

I would wear whatever you feel comfortable in and what you think is appropriate for a wedding. You're not Canadian so don't feel like you have to copy their customs. My DH would 100% wear his kilt to a foreign wedding and not think twice about it. I think it's nice to have representation of different cultures at events.
