Casual shoes with jeans

Help! I have been shopping for new shoes just to wear with (nice) jeans and a (stylish) t-shirt, do a lot of walking with pushchair and kids so they need to be comfy...

...SO, are we not allowed to wear socks anymore? They're all so open, I feel that boots won't last me all summer - so what do i do?!

Am I THAT unstylish that I'm more worried about socks? when did this happen?!

Can anyone find me some nice comfy shoes that don't shout "I'm a mother! Comfort first!"

Please help!

converse.

maidamess · 15/04/2008 09:43

Yes, converse. Lots of lovely designs and colours. and I wear trainer socks with mine.

OrmIrian · 15/04/2008 09:44

I love converse too.

Legoleia · 15/04/2008 09:45

Shoes! casual leather shoes!

I secretly like these a bit grown-up? ones...

what do you guys think? what about the socks issue?

Converse are great for walking with a pushchair (and kicking your Maclaren open and shut).

Legoleia · 15/04/2008 09:46

Hmmm... converse opens up a new avenue to explore... I never really thought about trainers - will I look good? [anxious forgotten-about-fashion emoticon]

upper age limit for converse please?

Anna8888 · 15/04/2008 09:48

If you can't wear jeans any longer, don't wear Converse.

maidamess · 15/04/2008 09:50

Lego i think they look a bit flat for long walks with the buggy...amd might look better with a skirt.

I know these cost an arm and a leg but stylewise?

nailpolish · 15/04/2008 09:51

are you serious with the black leather pumps? they would look ok in a bright colour such as green or red maybe

these are nice

brimfull · 15/04/2008 09:51

anna-upper age limit for jeans?

Legoleia · 15/04/2008 09:51

Oh, I am definitely still allowed to wear jeans, phew.

Any comments on the hush puppies, or similar?

I like the uber-flat soft leather ones but once tried some on and they just hurt! Boo!

Would get HPs in brown,

KGs are great but I feel the rest of my ensemble would seldom keep up with them, IYSWIM...

Agree with Anna's point re. jeans / Converse, cut-off age is the same - there isn't a specific age but you know in your heart when you have passed it.

But don't get hung up on socks, they are so unattractive. I think those shoes you linked to are fine. Also I know Clarks is Clarks etc but look at their site it's flash so I can't link directly to a shoe but the strappy white ones (with jeans) on opening screen.

PatsyCline · 15/04/2008 09:53

I just bought some Mary Jane Doctor Martins called Athena in blue from Schuh. They are really light and comfortable but funky. They look fab with jeans but also fine with skirts/casual dresses.

Link to stor is here (sorry, it won't let me link staright to actual shoe):

Schuh is actually a great place to try - the service at our local branch is utterly brilliant.

Ooh, faith website possibility

but no socks....= bunions in later life?

Converse look nicer with boyfriend style jeans, or flares/bootleg.

Might look a bit emo with skinnies.

Don't believe in upper age limits for things like jeans. It's all about what style you go for.

God, I'd have to go round naked if I couldn't wear jeans.

No19 · 15/04/2008 09:55

Oh God I am just about to order those Kurt Geigers they are NICE! Damn you maidamess I have no shoe budget for this week but I cannot pass these by.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 15/04/2008 09:55

I quite like the shoes in clarks

The ones called 'funny dream' and 'funny doo' (wanky names)

We are, ruby. In admiration of your funkiness.

Legoleia · 15/04/2008 09:59

I love you TDWP, I also appreciated the funkydoo, and also the horse way, if they didn't have the granny holes in them...

I'm so sensible! Next it'll be those leather old-lady trainers, in extra width fittings to accommodate corns...

Agree converse

MrsMattie · 15/04/2008 10:00

Comfortable ballet pumps? Converse are a bit studenty...
