Soo how do you wash your face at the sink

Sorry for the dumb question.

I don't usually wash my face at night with water and cleanser. I use one that doesnt need water just pour on a cotton pad. (morning is in the shower)

I've recently started doing a proper double cleanse but I get water absolutely everywhere. Runs down my arm, im groping around with my eyes shut etc.

What's a more graceful way of doing this please 😂

Lean right over the sink. Dip your head down.

Keep your elbows higher than your hands. Don't splash vigorously.

@masomenos calm down dear.

I can't imagine getting so wound up about how other people wash their face.

That’s even worse!! So you rinse off the flannel in a tub/basin/sink of water that contains the….very same thing you’ve just taken off your face?!

Yes I do multiple rinses/splashes, but each is with clean water. Not water that contains the residues of every previous rinse. That’s just diluting the soap and dirt and make up and transferring it back onto your face.

I think this is like people who wash dishes under running water/in dishwasher versus people who wash dishes in a single basin of water. I can’t see how the latter is possible. After the first dish has gone in, the water is dirty. How can anything be cleaned with dirty water? Same with this flannel/filling the sink up thing!

The final couple of swipes is with a freshly rung in clean water cloth. Tye. I use micellar water. What do you use after splashing ?

bluecomputerscreen · 07/08/2024 10:12

flannel

for double cleansing apply oil/lotion with hands
wipe off with a warm damp flannel

then lather with soap/foaming cleanser.
again wipe off with a warm damp flannel, followed by leaning right into the sink to rinse some more with flannel & warm water. squeeze flannel and remove any drops.

All you flannel people: you’re not washing your faces. You’re just wiping them with a wet cloth. Do you just wipe down your kitchen counters, or actually use soap (disinfectant spray, whatever)?

If you’ve used soap or lathering cleanser, you have to rinse it off with water. Wiping it off with a flannel will take multiple wipes and rinses.

I’ve also never understood what a strip wash is. How can you possible wash your body with soap and water without getting into a shower/bath? The most you can possibly hope to do is wipe various parts of your body with a damp or wet cloth. Grim.

Ah, good to see 'grim' make an appearance. What do you think will happen to people who use a flannel rather than your preferred method? It's such a strange thing to get so worked up about.

Rub cleanser onto dry skin with clean fingers, massage in, soak a flannel in hot water, wring out, wipe face, rinse, wring, wipe till all the cleanser is gone, no mess whatsoever.

This. People who are getting wet are using water to wash their face. Switch to using flannels/facecloths with hot water and wringed out.

BigDahliaFan · 07/08/2024 11:48

In the morning I use a gel cleanser (Boots) and wipe it off with a damp face flannel I should do the same in the evening but don't always get around to it.

I can't believe grown women can't wash/cleanse their face without water going every where.

Mumsnet really is a parallel universe. I'll

struggling with your post there @ClemmyTine ? - and you a grown woman and all. Grin

I think it's really odd that there's so much smugness in this thread. Not everyone has the same bathroom sink or water pressure or just physical ability. Also to everyone saying just use a flannel - does that not add a lot to your washing as I presume you use a fresh one each time?

I just do it while in the shower @Motherofmonsters as a fellow splashy creature who's trying to have a better skin care routine.

Not really, I use a flannel in the shower and also for my face. It's only 7 small cloths

I was just thinking the same thing, so many people making rude comments about how “bizzare” it is that “grown women can’t wash their face without getting water everywhere” and how “baffled” they are. Just…accept it? Without being mean? There’s just no need! There’s a lot of people who have the water everywhere/feel the wristbands are a game changer mentality, so it clearly IS a thing. No need for the snide comments!

Nothing, my face is clean. I wet my face with water. Apply foaming cleanser with my hands, run it all over my face and make sure I get the mascara etc. Run water over hands, cup them to get water in them and rinse off cleanser with 3 or 4 cupped handfuls of water. Face is clean. Then I just dry it with a towel.

if you were to wipe your face with a cloth after this the cloth would show up the make up residue left behind. or is this just me?

masomenos · 07/08/2024 14:26

That would have been the case when I was using a milky cleanser. You basically need a "detergent" to cut through the grease of make-up. Milky cleansers contain the same sort of 'grease' as moisturisers, so I felt I needed to cleanse after cleansing. Those sorts of cleansers never cleansed for me, they just added more stuff on top. I'm sure they're great for some skin-types, just not mine.

My skin is quite robust so I can even use plain old soap every now and then. But a basic foaming cleanser works perfectly. No need for cloths or hot water.

DiscoBeat · 07/08/2024 15:07

I use a hot cloth cleanser so it's wrung out.

Motherofmonsters · 07/08/2024 17:07

Thanks everyone! Sorry didn't realise this would start arguments.

Elbows up and flannels seem to be the way.
I'll give it a try tonight!

Use a face cloth.

MargotEmin · 07/08/2024 17:34

Sweatbands for your wrists are good if you don't like wet arms

Growlybear83 · 07/08/2024 17:37

I don't understand why people are having such problems washing their face? On the wry rare occasions I wear makeup, I use cleanser to remove it, but the vast majority of times I don't, and I just lather the soap in my hands, rub it over my face, rinse my hands, and then use them to rinse my face before drying it on a face towel. I've never had any water running down my arms, dripping on the floor, or needed to wipe down the sink afterwards.

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 07/08/2024 17:40

I wash my face over the bath so water goes all over the bath not the floor .. also naked just before I put my PJs on Blush

GoTigers · 07/08/2024 18:55

Apply (non foaming) cleanser of choice to face.

Massage in.

Place flannel (clean every time) under tepid water.

Wring said flannel out.

Apply to face, gently massaging as I move down face.

Repeat with 2nd application of cleanser and other side of flannel.

No water ‘everywhere’
No flannel ‘sitting in murky water’
Clean face.

Hoppinggreen · 07/08/2024 18:58

I don't wash my face generally.
I do use a wipe to get make up off if I am wearing it (rarely do) but I haven't washed my face regularly for around 10 years or more.
No spots or anything and less wrinkly than a lot of ladies my age.

I use a headband to hold my hair back, take my watch off and roll sleeves up. Towel on hand and wash with my head fully over the sink. Doesn't make a mess.

Edited

I do this and generally create a Noah’s Ark situation!
