Soo how do you wash your face at the sink

Sorry for the dumb question.

I don't usually wash my face at night with water and cleanser. I use one that doesnt need water just pour on a cotton pad. (morning is in the shower)

I've recently started doing a proper double cleanse but I get water absolutely everywhere. Runs down my arm, im groping around with my eyes shut etc.

What's a more graceful way of doing this please 😂

This is what I always think about when I see foamy cleanser ads. The perfect little neat splash that only gets the face. How is she doing that?!

imnottoofussed · 05/08/2024 23:23

I've found if I bend face down to the sink, scoop water into two hands and then push the water from chin towards forehead angle then the water doesn't get everywhere. So not just flinging the water at my face but sort of going chin upwards

This has made me smile, as I too am a “gets water everywhere” person! I don’t know how it happens it just…does!
i go on a fair few weekends away/holidays with my friends, and there’s an ongoing joke of “don’t go into the bathroom after Louise, as the floor will be soaked!”
I actually only the other day saw some towelled wrist bands in primark and initially wondered what on Earth they were, then thought “oh my gosh, they must be to stop the water running down your arms!” Love it.

However, I’ve given up trying. I started to think “you know what, the time it’s taken me to wash all my makeup off etc, and the mess I make, I could’ve just had a whole shower and my body would feel clean too.” So now, that’s what I do, with a quick cleanse and tone afterwards.

I’m surprised so many people find this hard. Water everywhere? What are you doing?!

I use a flannel or microfibre cloth. Wet it, squeeze out excess water, wipe face. Rinse cloth, squeeze again, wipe face again. Repeat until your skin is clean.

I do this whether I’m using a cleansing balm/milk or a foaming face wash.

I'm completely mystified by this thread. It's not difficult.

functioningadult · 06/08/2024 08:49

I never used to be a gets water everywhere person but I am now. My theory is that the angle/size/height of the sink can make the difference. My old house had a tall, deep sink but the one I have now is not as high and quite shallow.

BeachBae · 06/08/2024 08:54

I use whatever cleanser with cotton wool, then use a magic make up remover cloth to wash/wipe my face. I don't stick my head over the sink and splash water everywhere over my face.

This. No need to flail water about.

If my skin is in one of it's ultra sensitive moods, it can't even cope with the softest flannel, so splashing needs to happen. Elbows up and don't put too much water in the sink means no floods. Depth/shape of sink also a factor.

circular1985 · 06/08/2024 09:37

You can buy these wrist pads (looks like sweat bands) that stops water running down arms. I picked them up in primark.

TinkerTailorSoldier · 06/08/2024 21:33

Not difficult at all to hold water with cupped hands to gently wash the face. I don't have a single drop of water running down my arms or outside the sink.

Lovelysummerdays · 06/08/2024 21:36

familyissues12345 · 05/08/2024 22:15

I just use flannels, keep rinsing until there's no more face wash left.

I think I've seen wristband things for sale that stop water running down your arms?!

I got a pair of the wristbands in my beauty box (would not have bought them ) they are actually really useful for face washing and waterflossing

masomenos · 06/08/2024 21:48

All you flannel people: you’re not washing your faces. You’re just wiping them with a wet cloth. Do you just wipe down your kitchen counters, or actually use soap (disinfectant spray, whatever)?

If you’ve used soap or lathering cleanser, you have to rinse it off with water. Wiping it off with a flannel will take multiple wipes and rinses.

I’ve also never understood what a strip wash is. How can you possible wash your body with soap and water without getting into a shower/bath? The most you can possibly hope to do is wipe various parts of your body with a damp or wet cloth. Grim.

Izzynohopanda · 06/08/2024 21:55

StormingNorman · 05/08/2024 22:50

I don’t splash my face at all.

I squeeze the cleanser into my hand, run my hand under the tap to add just enough water to get it to froth it up. Then I rub the lather all over my face. Rinse my hands, dry them and use my dry hands like windscreen wipers to wipe off the cleanser. When it’s nearly all off, I get my hands wet again and run my wet hands over my face. Then towel off the last traces of cleanser.

Something like this.

TheMithrasDirective · 06/08/2024 22:08

Oh, the wristbands are GREAT! I hate having water running down my arms, they're brilliant.

  1. Apply cleanser (oil-based type)
  2. Run hot tap, wet flannel, squeeze out
  3. Foaming cleanser optional
  4. Hold hot cloth over face for a bit
  5. Wipe, rinse, repeat
  6. Splash of cold water, keep face over sink so it doesn't go everywhere

Pretty straightforward.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 06/08/2024 22:46

Roll my sleeves up and make sure my hair is off my face - and that I've a towel to hand .

I use soap and no flannel - just use my hands .

squishyarms · 06/08/2024 22:48

Definitely get some of the wrist bands! I was forever going to bed with wet pyjama sleeves and these have been a life saver!

This.
I am staggered by the fact seemingly not just one person, but several people have got into adulthood not knowing how to wash their face.

Oh the grim word is back
Strip washing is easy, and I've known people who haven't been able to shower for a decade and don't smell because they are washed
I've had to do it after various operations and also as a carer

You lather up the body part to be washed and rinse it with a flannel/sponge, using a towel or waterproof mat to keep bedding dry if you're doing it in bed. Or use the sink. Whether your rinsing using a flannel or running water, it's still washing

And yes I use a spray for my kitchen worktop which is called spray wipe done

I'm mystified by most of the posts.

This is just bizarre.

When I wash my face at night I take the top layers of clothing off down to slip or bra. Wash face, dry face and hands. Take off bra and slip. Put pyjamas on.

What nonsense. Cream cleanser on dry skin, run bowl of hot water, wet flannel, wipe face, wet flannel again, wipe face again using the other side of the flannel. Perfectly clean skin. Then I use toner on cotton wool pad or a Nip Fab glycolic pad. If there was any residual make up etc I'd see it in the pad, but there isn't. Clean flannel every night.

CherryBlossom321 · 07/08/2024 00:36

Another vote for the wristbands. Game changer.

Hucklemuckle · 07/08/2024 00:57

Get your face down much much lower so your forearms aren't angled upwards so much.

This way lots of water doesn't run down your forearms to your elbow and drip everywhere.

I tend to fill basin with warm water. Put wash cloth into water.
Foam up face
Lean right in and use very wet cloth to do first rinses. Then when most foam has gone I stand upright more and use squished out cloth to remove remaining.

Then I pat dry with wash cloth. Rinse cloth. Hang on tap. Empty basin. Use micellar water or other to ensure every bit is gone.

Yes. Multiple wipes and rinses. Why is this odd. You surely don't just do a single splash with water? You do multiple splashes to get the cleanser off. Same thing with a cloth.

I start with a basin of warm water and start with a sodden cloth. After the first couple of wipes and rinses I use a more squeezed out cloth.

Then I pat dry and finish off with a micellar water on a pad

masomenos · 07/08/2024 03:10

That’s even worse!! So you rinse off the flannel in a tub/basin/sink of water that contains the….very same thing you’ve just taken off your face?!

Yes I do multiple rinses/splashes, but each is with clean water. Not water that contains the residues of every previous rinse. That’s just diluting the soap and dirt and make up and transferring it back onto your face.

I think this is like people who wash dishes under running water/in dishwasher versus people who wash dishes in a single basin of water. I can’t see how the latter is possible. After the first dish has gone in, the water is dirty. How can anything be cleaned with dirty water? Same with this flannel/filling the sink up thing!
