Need night time skin care routine recommendations

I am nearly 40 and I have never had a skin care routine that I have stuck to. The most I normally do is make up remover and it's time to start taking care of my face before it's too late.

However it needs to be something I can stick to so not going from no products to 7 as I will never stick to it.

What is a good core skin care routine and products for someone heading into their 40's? Usual issues of combination skin, a few lines appearing now and starting to feel a bit dull. I also get the odd hormonal break out along my jaw and chin due to PCOS.

I'm thinking along the lines of cleanse/ serum/ moisturise and I am willing to pay a bit more for something really good.

Can anyone make any recommendations?

Cleansing balm or gel cleanser
Serum for moisturising
Serum for exfoliating/niacinamide (alternate with moisturising serum/use three times a week)
Gel cream - light on oils but hydrating.

The Ere Perez Fig Jelly is the best cleansing balm I have ever used. It washes off clean so you don’t have to double cleanse. Removes make up but is really gentle.
The quandong green booster is moisturising and exfoliating- seriously great stuff. It has oil in it and I had to stop using it ( have to use strictly oil free products) and I am still sad about it.

This is another serum moisturising but controls oil, gentler than niacinamide but still effective.

The round lab birch juice serum, cleanser and cream are excellent. Highly recommend for combo skin

These are the AHA serums. I have the isntree Chestnut one but am still using up my Drunk Elephant, so can’t really recommend one.

I use the propolis as my day serum: birch juice serum or quandong booster at night, followed by round lab birch moisturiser. AHA three times a week.
No redness, no irritation, no pimples, no sebaceous filaments or blackheads.

Morning
Hawaiian tropic facial sunscreen

Evening
Balm cleaner, various brands always pretty cheap Elf, inkey list etc.
Dermatica subscription derm formula - presently Tretinoin 0.05 and 4% hydroquinone. Left on for a while the a rich night moisturiser- eg La Roche posay cicaplast balm.

A year ago I stopped spending on all the expensive serums etc and just get dermatologist formula from dermatica and my skin is so so much better, clearer, less blemished. Compliment regularly.

I reckon I save money as all I spend on is the above instead of all the pricy cosmetic brands.
