Changing hair colour slightly

I've coloured my hair at home since the pandemic and I'm generally much happier than when it was salon coloured - cost, obvs and also the colour is much warmer and has tones in it now. It was very flat at the hairdressers.

Lately I'm struggling with the colour fading very quickly, and becoming more ginger/light copper than the chestnut colour it starts as. My natural hair colour is mid brown with chestnut hue although it has streaks of grey and strong grey roots at the sides of my face. I want to keep colouring it as I'm not ready to go grey yet.

I know I need to wash less often to help preserve the colour, but in the meantime I've been flipping between slightly different shades each time I colour. It's always Garnier but sometimes Nutrisse and sometimes Olia. Say from 5.25 to 4.5.

I'm worried this might damage my hair, or I end up with green hair Shock

Anyone got experience of regular shade changes?
