Off to Italy in a couple of weeks, I put on a lot of weight last year that I haven't yet lost, im 33 5ft 7 size 16 (heavy middle) and desperately need to buy some clothes that fit and I feel comfortable in. I've lost my style this last year and want to right it and feel happy in myself again.

We'll be by a beach so I need things I can throw on over a swimsuit and also nicer items for the evening.

Budget isn't huge, I've seen quite a few bits on SHEIN that I like the look of but I never know with sizing and fabric etc.

Thank you I like the look of those dresses however they are out of stock but will keep looking! I am worried about the heat as I don't cope great but we will be doing a lot of swimming etc by the lake and where we are staying. We did want to venture to Venice for the day I am hoping the train has air con!!

I am off to Italy and most of my holiday wardrobe has come from Tesco. If you have a good look you will find cotton and linen dresses that are cut very flatteringly.

Also they do a really nice relaxed fit t-shirt which looks very nice with their tailored shorts. Also - great prices.

I chopped the shirt sleeves to make them shorter and hemmed them, as trying to get them to stay rolled up was annoying me!

Look at Yours. Their prices are very reasonable and the sizing is good.

RockyRogue1001 · 03/08/2024 22:08

❤️ Yours has a big range so suits lots of tastes. You can buy online and they are not expensive.

You're on the thin side for them, so that'll give you an instant confidence boost (they go up to around a size 30)

I've got this linen shirt dress from H & M, the crop linen trousers (comes in lots of colours, I bought the black for evening) and linen top from New Look. The three items make lots of outfits with a pair of denim shorts and some vest tops.

For evenings could you get a cami and bias skirt that worn together look like a dress and then can be worn separately? Then maybe a longline waistcoat and trouser co-ord that you could mix and match with the cami and skirt?

Wow thanks for these recommendations. Very useful to many I'm sure

Winter41 · 04/08/2024 08:13

Tk maxx usually has lots of linen shirts and dresses.

Greytulips · 04/08/2024 10:36

I brought a long jersey tshirt as a cover up. Shein special.

Roman originals have great dresses and shorts with some stretch. Worth a look.

DGPP · 04/08/2024 10:48

I second the M&S beach shirts, they are great over swimwear. I’d stick to cotton and linen dresses like the H&M dress above, plus shorts and vest tops or skirts and vest tops.

DGPP · 04/08/2024 12:34

This would also be good for evenings and has a high cotton count https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1238357003.html

Some lovely outfits. For info re shein. If you look in the comments of the item, buyers advise whether true to size etc.

Christine1998 · 04/08/2024 14:40

Primark have got some over shirts for coverups in some very lovely colours. They are thin and quite see through but fine as cover ups.

Mary46 · 04/08/2024 14:42

Hi op M and S some nice linen pieces. I found shein hit and miss. Some nice bits in Monsoon kaftans etc nice and loose.

capricorn12 · 04/08/2024 14:44

I'm a similar size to to you 14/16 with big boobs and heavy middle and I find Blue Vanilla good for summer dresses as they are very reasonably priced and flattering.

My friend said she did a free stylist session with John Lewis, she said it was really good esp since it was free. However she did come out paying for £300 worth of clothes but seems she got a brand new wardrobe of very nice clothes!

Have a look for this style on vinted, I've seen soooo many!

DM (size 14/16) has just bought two really nice long legged sleeveless jumpsuits from Asda for her Italy holiday this summer. They were £8 each.

user2037272727273 · 04/08/2024 19:22

Thanks everyone I love the h and m stuff, I do have very long legs/short body so although I love the look of jumpsuits they never seem to look right on me which is really frustrating and trousers can be a bit hit and miss too! I'm sometimes a bit tall for the regular size but the long sizes can be too long it's very frustrating!! I think I'm going to go to my local shopping centre as there is a h and m and m and s and a few other places such as accessorze I think and see what I can spot. I prob have about £200 budget but I was hoping to get another pair of sandals and swimsuit too and a couple of shorts for the boys!

I got pretty much all my holiday clothes from shein this year. I stuck with shirred dresses as that's what suits me best, plus a few cover ups from there too. I found their sizing to be fine, true to size & the quality was really good.
