Style Advice for my wedding

I'm getting married in mid October at a registry office, it's just the two of us and it's informal. But I'm stuck on finding anything to wear. It's early afternoon after which we'll go for a wander around the area and then for a nice lunch. To me it's just like an extra special Saturday out together. I don't want to look too bride like because we'll be wandering and stuff but I want to look nice/stylish but at ease in what I'm wearing.

I'm 50, size 12, normal sized boots and hips. My normal style is blouse/shirt and dark jeans, turned up and adidas trainers, brogues or converse, or if I go into the office black wide legged trousers, converse platform boots and a black shirt, If i was ever to wear a dress or skirt it would be short a line with black tights and flat shoes - i look wierd in heels.

Can anyone recommend any style or shops or designers I could look at, my budget is whatever makes me feel good for the day (within reason 🙂)

I'll try to post a pic of my daily style of that helps...

Boobs not boots

Congratulations!

And a sensible amount of time to plan.

Short of a ballgown, is there anything you’ve ever longed to wear, that didn’t fit into your everyday lifestyle or idea of yourself? A beautiful pair of shoes, or extravagant silk shirt, or even a piece of jewellery. Informality is fine but it might be good to add a tiny element of fantasy.

For instance (and obviously other people will have other ideas) something like these:

Zimmermann blouse

Cawley Studio shirt(Different colour maybe.)

Budd silk shirt

with an upgraded pair of the sort of jeans or trousers you prefer.

Thank-you!! I've never really thought about whether there's anything special I'd like to wear, I'm pretty dull and don't think there is. I am loving the bud shirt, this is the type of thing I think Im after!!

Great!

(Budd shirts are rather tremendous and seem to improve with age. I’ve had to have mine slightly altered to fit perfectly as they’re quite long on the body - but they’re worth it.)

Is there anything else that might make your best ever Saturday afternoon stroll outfit? I thought of various shoe brands and hesitated in case they’re not your thing …

But, as regards fantasy outfits - these sites might prove inspiring. (Though bearing in mind you’ll want their autumn iterations.):

Bite Studios

AnnaOctober

Nodaleto

Batsheva

Christian Wijnants

Jil Sander

Petar Petrov

That’s enough!

I would look for a dress or a suit in a beautiful fabric and a classic style. Something you'll have as a classic "go to" outfit for years to come.

Or splurge on a gorgeous winter coat over a simple outfit that you'll have for years.

Feel free to give an idea of budget which will help.

Join that group on fb if you can. Its for brides age 40 and over and the discussions on there about EVERYTHING are a great help. The dresses are all there to see. Make up. Flowers. Allnsorts. Monsoon seems a great shout for many dresses.
I'm 51 and getting married in 12 weeks. Some of the advice and discussions have been a great help.
And congratulations!

Also, you would be surprised how many different types of wedding attire for brides there are. I definitely recommend finding a place where you can go and try some things on. What you think you may like surprisingly may not be as you expected...and vice versa.
