Makeup over 40

I’ve had most of my makeup for years, always just buying the same products as they run out but as I’ve just turned 40, I think it’s time to update my collection and techniques. I enjoy applying it although my routine is pretty basic and hasn’t really changed in 20 years - I’ve never done anything like contouring and just use a basic eyebrow pencil instead of a ‘kit’ for example. I always wore liquid eyeliner but I’m finding it harder to apply neatly now as my eye lids have become more creased.

My skin is ok, I have dark eye circles and just the start of fine lines under my eyes plus some broken capillaries on my cheeks and the start of more noticeable pores.

Please can anyone tell me what products I really need, maybe some tutorials I could follow and/or recommend any products? I urgently need a new foundation so that might be a good place to start. I’ve always used budget products that you can get in supermarkets but happy to spend a bit more for better products but don’t want to waste money on the wrong things. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Rather than random oddments of advice - if you can get to a Selfridges try their Beauty Concierge service. Scroll down:

Link to Manchester but presumably available everywhere.
