If you had to wear one forever, what would it be?

I think mine would be Chanel Chance Eau Tendre.

Body Shop White Musk.

Ah you sweetie @MUCHtodoAboutSomething I didn’t mean to make the thread sad! It was more that your sense of smell is so hardwired into memory that it’s a really good shortcut to feeling close to someone. Also a minor rant about how annoying it is when a fragrance you really love is discontinued!

Lillygolightly · 28/07/2024 22:05

Calvin Klein Contradiction - smells fresh and clean whilst also having depth and sophistication. It’s a great day and evening perfume.

Alien - is up there too, you need so little of it and it lasts ages! More of an evening perfume in my opinion.

Samsara - was my mum’s favourite and I usually have a bottle of it so I can smell her when I miss her.

Fraley · 28/07/2024 22:11

Chanel Christalle

Derrymum123 · 28/07/2024 22:18

Cerruti 1881 or Contradiction by Calvin Klein . Always go back to these.

ChishiyaBat · 28/07/2024 22:21

I know people hate it, but Angel, i've worn it since 1996 and every time I wear it people always tell me I smell nice.

Do they still do Coco Chanel? -not to be confused with coco mademoiselle

They do, thank goodness!

Gekeos · 28/07/2024 22:45

Jo Malone Scarlet Poppy

IvanaTinkles · 28/07/2024 22:48

Used to be Back Opium or Chanel No. 5, but haven’t been able to wear perfume for 3 years now since a bout of Covid permanently ruined my sense of smell. ALL perfume now smells like urine to me!

Teahtime · 28/07/2024 22:52

YSL Nu & Donna Karan Black Cashmere, sadly both discontinued.

Polkadottydot · 28/07/2024 23:02

This thread is making me nostalgic. I had Angel when I got married and adored it.
Love Chanel allure too
Day to day I still teach for Davidoff cool water ! Fresh as you like

Angrymum22 · 28/07/2024 23:07

Chanel Coco, I’ve managed to buy vintage original formula which is so much better than the modern formula. I still have the modern formula for every day.
It’s the only perfume I’ve worn that men make a point of telling me how good I smell, even outside. Even DS’s friends, late teens, comment on it and I’m no milf.

LunaTheCat · 28/07/2024 23:14

Angrymum22 …the original Coco was my signature perfume through my 20’s and 30’s… I was so gutted when formulation changed…it’s now to the same at all!

I can't wait until the day it's possible to smell through the internet. I want to try all the perfumes you're mentioning, and most of them don't seem to be the kind you find at The Fragrance Shop!

I love Coco Mademoiselle and Boss Orange. But my favourite smell is a little fragrance oil rollerball from Boots that I've had for over twenty years. Completely unobtainable now and it doesn't even say what the smell comprises of so I can't search for similar. I allow myself a little roll and sniff a couple of times a year.

I got really into fragrance
Started by sniffing everything from candles in TK maxx to food, herbs, spices, body sprays, shower gel...
then I would smell scents in boots/Superdrug etc
Started reading on Fragrantica and looking at reviews and notes
Took a trip to selfridges to sniff a few scents there and ordered some samples (small aromas is one I use)

I'm at the point now I can blind buy perfumes and know I will love them. Not necessarily expensive, there's great budget ones out there

JadeSeahorse · 28/07/2024 23:28

I flirted for a while - years ago - with Quelques Fleurs by Houbigant, Windsong by Prince Matchabelli and Aromatics Elixir by Clinique but my all time favourite is Elizabeth Arden Blue Grass which I have worn almost daily for over 50 years.

TicketyBoo11 · 28/07/2024 23:50

Sisley-Eau de Campagne
Clarins-Eau des Jardins

Got a gorgeous little tester set from Penhaligon of their classic fragrances. Always come back to Sisley though..

BurntBroccoli · 29/07/2024 00:49

I would also love to smell the original Miss Dior again. Late 80s version. Was my signature scent back then.

Guerlain Shalimar for me, although it attracts too many insects for comfort in the summer.

I think this or next year is Shalimar's centenary.

Every time I wear it, someone comments. So it's survived the test of time.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 29/07/2024 04:37

YSL Libre my all time favourite

YorkshireTeaBiscuits · 29/07/2024 04:40

Desert Eden by Estee lauder

ConstantlyFuriosa · 29/07/2024 04:52

Dolce e gabbana light blue. Worn it for over twenty years.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 29/07/2024 05:15

Current new faves are L'interdit by Givenchy and Ode to dullness by Juliette has a gun.

If I can only pick one forever I'll have to go with Prada Candy though.

Some old favourites on this thread, Allure, Amarige, Ysatis

I used to love In Love Again by YSL and clarins Elysium (both long since discontinued 😭)
