Talk to me about sunglasses

I've always been the person to buy cheap sunglasses, the cheaper the better as I like or break them.however I tried in a friend's pair of designer sunglasses and couldn't believe the clarity it was like 4k. So thought I'd look on vinted but what am I looking for? Has anyone recommendations on good brands. Friends were £300 which I cant afford.

I recently converted to nice sunglasses and my friends are always amazed when they try mine on. You don't need to spend £300. Try one of the glasses shops like Ollie Quinn as they do proper polarising sunglasses without the designer label price inflation.

Do you know anyone with a Costco membership? I got a pair of Ray bans for £85 recently and they have a good range.

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 26/07/2024 08:00

I had a pair I’d got from Marks that cost me £8.50 about 10 years ago. They recently broke and I replaced them with a Ted Baker pair I found on Amazon they were a little more expensive at < £50.00 but I’m very pleased with them. I went through a few pairs before I found the ones I liked, they are polarised which I do think is important.

Ray Ban are great and last years

Imtoooldforallthis · 26/07/2024 08:01

I was hoping to get a second had pair off Vinted. So for example Ray bans, if I can get genuine ones are the lenses all the same quality?

Where can you find good ones that you can have a look at and try on?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/07/2024 08:11

I wouldn't buy sunglasses from Vinted even though I usually buy 80% of all other clothes and accessories from there.

Can I ask why not?

I would avoid buying them from Vinted too, fake sunglasses are very easy to pass of as real online. Vinted is full of fakes, the lenses will be similar to the cheap ones you're used to or worse.

I echo others to look for an in between brand, Jimmy Fairly, Les Specs or even Polaroid.

Callingallbutterflies · 26/07/2024 08:24

I have expensive sunglasses and not so expensive. Goodr are the best and very reasonably priced.

Cyclingmummy1 · 26/07/2024 08:25

I bought a pair of RayBans about 15 years ago which I've worn to death. I've got a pair of Armani which are fine here but bit dark enough for bright sun. I want a pair of polarised Jim Maui to replace the RayBans.

Imtoooldforallthis · 26/07/2024 08:46

And just to add ideally something with a bit of detailing on.

I have a few Le Specs pairs (you can buy them at John Lewis) and they are all great. Good lenses and solid frames. I can't say that I notice a huge difference between them and my RayBans. Oakley have the best lenses I've tried but their non-sport options are pretty limited IMO.

Be careful. There are a lot of fakes out there.

In addition any bought second hand may be scratched or have a layer of suncream on the lenses that is seemingly not removable.

l wear glasses and lost a pair of prescription glasses a while back. Someone must have thought they had a great expensive find until they try them on.

Lots of fakes, could be scratched and then you're into the whole palava of trying to prove you didn't do it yourself, returns are difficult on Vinted. As I say I buy most things from Vinted but I only spend what I'm prepared to lose. You can get some really nice glasses with your budget, go and spend time trying them on and making sure they fit really nicely.

sausawyee · 26/07/2024 10:04

I only buy from this company now. Such great quality. Admittedly you can't try unless you go to the store but they have details and online try on. They have saved me a fortune over the past 8 years as I'm not tempted to buy things as I spot them in places like Max. Mind you I have 4 pairs now.

Agree. It's not all about fashion. It is your eye health.

AllMyExesWearRolexes · 26/07/2024 10:28

I have Oakleys but my go-to is Randolph Engineering, they are standard issue for airlines and air forces around the world because of their quality.
This covers quality of manufacturing and quality of the lenses - the glare / brightness is diminished but colours all retain their proportion to each other, rather than everything just being darkened.
Frames come in a variety of colours and lenses are available in multiple colours and sizes, check the website to see what suits you.

Try TK Maxx for branded sunglasses at a lower price.
