Does anyone take collagen supplements? if so what has been your experience and would you recommend? What brands would you recommend?

I take Ancient & Brave and don’t even notice it in my coffee. I would definitely recommend it.

Collagen is broken down in the stomach into amino acids just like any other protein.

Have a glass of milk, you'll achieve the same result.

😮 what an eye opener.... and there I am, getting collagen ads popung up all the time and starting to be tempted!

Thank you!

You do realise that collagen is made of animal bones?

Plant derived collagen exists

The best Collagen is supposed to be Marine, made of fish (if you are non Vegan anyway)

I have been using it for months, probably a year now - bought a huge tub.

No difference that I can see.
Waste of money. Snake oil. 😐

soupfiend · 24/07/2024 23:24

Collagen is recommended by physios for supporting bone density, better than calcium supplements (although you may also need those too)

You can have a glass of milk but it takes a lot of milk to replicate what you can get in a spoonful of my collagen powder

radio4everyday · 24/07/2024 23:24

You pee out most of it. Good way to lighten the wallet, won't do much else.

Garlickest · 24/07/2024 23:31

I buy tubs of the powder from Amazon - one scoop is about 10 capsules' worth. The jury's out on whether it actually does anything after you've digested it - but I think it helps my achey joints and flakey nails.

Vegetarians can get fish collagen, vegans have seaweed collagen. Very few products have all the different kinds of collagen (three last time I looked, but one of them had two variants). Bone broth does have them all. I'm too lazy to make it, however.

Vegetarians don't eat fish

It's not actually collagen though. If you'd specified vegan collagen alternative, you'd have got different answers.

Anyway, I'm a vegetarian and I take vollagen, from vegetology.

iEatTooManyBiscuits · 25/07/2024 21:32

I'd imagine collagen is collagen unless you're looking to spend money something afforable like this would be grand id imagine !!! Good luck !!!

iEatTooManyBiscuits · 25/07/2024 21:35

if its collagen from the shells of shellfish, surely thats like wool from a sheep i.e. a la 'A okay'

iEatTooManyBiscuits · 25/07/2024 21:35

hopefully that message came through aha

NotStayingIn · 25/07/2024 21:36

With these things I think it’s almost impossible to say for sure whether it does anything.

I’ve taken collagen for years now and I think it does something, but maybe I would feel the exact same not taking it. Not sure!

purplehue · 25/07/2024 21:40

I have been using collagen supplements for a while now. Mainly started them to improve my skin. It has slightly but the big benefit I have noticed is that my ankles are less stiff and sore in the mornings.

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 25/07/2024 21:42

I took it, tried all different types and saw no difference whatsoever. The research does tend to imply that it has no effect as it is just broken down in the gut. There are two things that I have done that have made a difference:

  1. I had Botox in my brow and around my eyes. This was a game changer - I can still move my forehead and am not frozen.
  2. I started using a Skin + Me formula. This does seem to have smoothed my skin out - you take a quiz to determine what's best for you. I have a code to get your 1st and 5th doses for £3:50.

I hate to be picky, but when you start a post asking about a supplement made from animal products, you should specifically have stated that you are vegan.

There is actually no such thing as vegetable collagen. All the vegetable supplements will assist your body to create more of its own collagen. Anything vegan should be labelled as a collagen booster, not actually collagen.

Yes, sorry! Pescatarians.

Gen888 · 09/08/2024 21:34

Hi all, accidentally came looking for collagen for health benefits. Heard a lot about 'Ancient & Brave'. Anyone uses Correxiko Collagen? Can it really help your skin, joints, gut and hair?

Thanks.
