Anyone else read it yet? I'm about 2/3 through and find myself saying 'yes, yes' at regular intervals.

Lots of interesting info about lots of topics: evolution, capitalism, decline in living standards.

He's definitely a quality over quantity kind of guy.

Oh, I started it this morning, after seeing his gardening article in the FT.

I’m still on the introduction and finding it relatively charming - though just this side of preachy. Very fluent. Did he write it himself or was a ghostwriter involved? It seems unfair that one man should be both so beautiful and so multi-talented …

It could be preachy, but he's so charming that somehow it isn't.

I assumed he wrote it himself. He did a TED talk back in 2018 on the same subject https://www.tedxexeter.com/speakers/patrick-grant/

I won't mind preachy. There are things that need to be preached about. And he's never said anything I haven't agreed with.

I love him but some of the history is twaddle.

Slight disgruntlement with the GBSB final result is making me question the appeal of spending £9.99 to stare at my phone screen. (I only have the kindle sample of the book so far.)

Am away from home and don’t feel like adding a hardback book to my luggage …

Floisme · 25/07/2024 09:52

He's put his money where his mouth is so I'll cut him so slack if he strays close to preachy at times. That said, I've not read it or even bought it so what do I know.

It was recently 99p on kindle.

Good read. Really made me think about what I'm buying (and if I need to buy) and quality of everything

The winner was the best on the day, though. I wasn’t happy with the outcome but couldn’t quibble with it after the way the three challenges played out.

I could listen to Patrick read a phone book. He is lovely.
