That's it. I see people wearing similar all the time but can't find any myself. The "holy grail" pair that will happily pound the streets on a city break with trainers or look smart enough for work with a pair of loafers. Slightly cropped, tapered leg. Any suggestions (and links), please?

I've got some from M&S (£17.50) and also some from Halara.

Halara takes a while to be delivered but the quality, material and fit are great.

Thanks @WinterKate, they are very nice but maybe feel a too "office" and not enough "weekend". One of the reviews described them as more viscose than ponte - would you agree?

I was gutted when Matalan stopped selling those (about 4 years ago). Haven’t found any that were quite the same since (sorry, no help).

Agree, I had these for work and they lasted flipping ages!

Got these today and really, really pleased with them. They feel decently heavy, so not for high summer, but they are excellent quality and really well cut. They are the kind of trousers that I could wear everyday in my life - for work and leisure.
I'm 5'9" and the 30" are a little long on me - I would have bought the 28" if they had been in stock. Easily remedied though. Definitely keeping!

What is ponte? I looked at the links but none seemed to say 'ponte'.
Is it just any stretchy trouser weight fabric?
I have trousers from Robell and other brands but i don't know if they are ponte. They look like trousers but as comfortable as leggings.

@LoveSandbanks - I was a bit cautious as I had never heard of NinePine but they are excellent quality. Really pleased to have got them at such a good price.

Ponte is a thick, double knit fabric design produced on double jersey (Rib or Interlock) knitting machines. It is one of the firm, stable structures of knits with a subtle sheen. This fabric is heavier and thicker than a regular jersey .

I thought it had a sort of pattern to it - like in Boden stretchy dresses.
Don't really fancy paying Boden prices though when I have several pairs of comfy smart stretchy black trousers already.
