Are smaller sizes in dresses shorter?

To keep in proportion?

I have ordered a lovely maxi dress, but it's a bit too big, also slightly too long.

If I order a size down, I'm hoping it fitting better with stop it "dropping" as much, but will it also be a fraction shorter?

FWIW, I'm 5'7", when did that become short?! Over the last few years, lots of things are too long for me, when I used to have the opposite problem.

I wish I had your problem. I'm 5'0." Nothing fits me. A maxi dress would have me tripping over the hem.

Yes, that's my point if it's too long for me, I don't know who it's supposed to fit!

Yes. It fucks me right off! Im short and fat. I want clothes that fit.

Yes, I long ago realised a size 12 was the absolute max for me as otherwise the sleeves were all too long.

I feel your pain.

I bought 2 pairs of short jeans from M&S last week, always buy short jeans from M&S, they are the same style as previous short jeans from M&S and I can wear them with trainers/flat shoes. These are definitely longer, they drag on the floor, I've kept one pair to wear with a very chunky pair of boots but they are definitely longer...I'm 5'2.

I think that if you were larger and got a dress a size smaller it would be shorter on you because the material would be covering the rest of your body if you see what I mean. I don't know if they are ACTUALLY shorter though.

Yes, when pattens are graded across all sizes the length increases by about 1/4 inch on each side.
