Help with aging skin

HuongVuong3 · 21/07/2024 12:58

I wondered if any of you have recommendations for creams, supplements, masks etc to help with my aging skin and grey under-eye shadows. I've always had good skin so am finding this change difficult. 😔

I'm 49 and definitely in peri menopause. Bad sleep isn't helping but I'm trying my best to sort this. In addition I'm eating lots of fruit and vegetables, pulses, lots of water etc.

Any advice or suggestions would be very gratefully appreciated!

Which retinal face cream would you recommend? Thank you.

Beauty of josen retinal eye cream can be used all over the face. The medik8 retinal is £49!! And the ordinary one burned my friend.

I treated myself to an LED mask and have never been more pleased with a purchase in my life. Not a cheap initial outlay, but god does it work on the combined joy of my acne-prone/aging skin.

It’s the Dr Dennis Gross mask - it makes me look like something out of Tron! It’s not cheap and I gather that there are less expensive ones which do the trick too, but this one was recommended to me by a friend.

I have the Honey app, which automatically adds a discount code to a website, so got it for £100 off, but this was a few years ago so no idea if there’s one now.

Thank you love I'll watch some videos with my coffee I've been considering a mask!

IDontLikePinaColadas · 22/07/2024 17:50

@BowlOfNoodles I cannot for the life of me remember which was the less expensive one which was voted as being just as good, but definitely do some research.

Where do you get these magic shots from please ?

Lookfantastic website!
They’re not as easy to find as they used to be. But you can find them there.

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 22/07/2024 20:07

OP, I love 8 hour cream as a treatment. I tend to use the 8 hour miracle oil these days… face, neck, scalp/hair, everywhere. I don’t use it daily but quite often and I love it.

I wondered if anyone could add information about microneedling and the results it delivered. What is the downtime like?

bluemoons3 · 22/07/2024 20:20

Code AFFHAUL takes the LED mask down to £316.20 that's quite tempting 😍 TopCashback has 8% cashback making it £290 once you've got the cashback..

I find any vitamin C serums or moisturisers always brighten my skin up a little bit. As I'm quite pale and prone to looking tired easily, I find warmer hair colours really suit, but that will depend on your skin tone. Also collagen powder as others here have said, going to give the imedeem ones a go myself

JamSandle · 22/07/2024 20:37

Moontoboon · 22/07/2024 20:51

There are a never ending range of products that you can spend an absolute fortune on. As for the evidence base of what actually works, use a moisturizer, use Tretinoin ( if your skin can tolerate it, not everyone’s can), spf daily and don’t smoke.

Use the money you save on other products for cosmetic surgery later in life. Or spend it on having fun.

Moontoboon · 22/07/2024 20:52

As for LED mask, it damaged my skin ( gave me red marks), so I wouldn’t recommend it. Mine wasn’t cheap either.

micro needling - I had it done in a salon with numbing cream. Not everyone needs the numbing cream but they have to get deep enough for the pin pricks to bleed and I’m a wimp. First day you look sunburnt second day back to normal but a bit itchy. I saw the most dramatic improvement on my neck. It’s not magic but the improvement was noticeable and has lasted. I’m getting some more sessions done, so far I’ve had 2 sessions about 8 months apart

MartyFunkhouser · 26/07/2024 17:44

I’m 52. I have a very good facial every 4 weeks. Botox every 9 months or so.

Only use really good products on my skin and SPF50 all year round. Never, ever put my face in the sun. Or any bit of me, if I can help it.

I do my own microneedling at home. Caster oil every night.

HRT. I can see my friends that have decided to ‘do without’ are ageing facially.

sunshinechaser · 26/07/2024 19:34

HRT (if only to help your sleep and reduce your under eye discolouration).
Tretinoin-I wouldn't waste time with retinol/retinal etc. Go straight for the good stuff!
SPF 50 daily but I see you already do this.
I use a NuFace device and LED light mask on alternate days and I feel I get most benefit from my NuFace device. It gives a noticeable lift.
I love Korean skincare and layer this each morning. It makes my skin really juicy and glowy. I don't layer at night as I use tretinoin each night so would be a waste of time.

Tret isn't tolerated by everybody was horrendous for me I tried I peeled like a snake for 6 months I had to give up. Led masks interest me what brand did you go for and did you notice any facial fat loss?

sunshinechaser · 27/07/2024 08:59

@BowlOfNoodles I was the same with tret and was about to give up. However I joined a tretinoin Facebook group (tretinoin and retinoid users) and I learned I wasn't using enough moisturisers in the morning. I changed my skincare routine to some of the recommendations, mostly Korean skincare of light toners, essences, oils and moisturisers and I have no peeling at all now. The group is run by a consultant cardiologist who is also super knowledgeable about skincare. I'm so glad I didn't give up as my skin is the best it's ever been.
I use an Omnilux LED mask and it's hard to tell if I have any fat loss due to this. I'm 50 and I've been using it for about 5 years so I suppose I would have had fat loss anyway due to natural ageing. I can't say I've noticed anything significant though.

Snippit · 27/07/2024 09:10

I really struggle with different lotions and potions, my skin is so sensitive. At 57 I feel I want to do something, I had a microdermabrasion years ago which was good. I’m now looking for a salon that does CACI treatments, it looks really interesting, Anthea Turner swears by it and she has lovely skin, she’s also admitted to having botox, I’m not having anything injected in my face, no way, I fear having a reaction with my skin 😝

I was really hydrating my skin with vast amounts of mucin! Korean skincare! Absolutely everything I own now for my face down to the spf is Korean love it! What's your favourite brand? Thanks for the information x

UmberMoose · 27/07/2024 15:12

Here is something that I do for anti ageing. Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
la roche posay spf
Evening:
la roche posay moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

Puravida23 · 27/07/2024 15:23

For me the key things have been hydration (drink lots of water but also Hyralonic serum and face mists) , Vitamin C , SPF and Tret. I started HRT late, lived abroad for a decade so have sun damage and am also a runner so I think I have aged really badly but these things have massively improved my haggard face just wish I had started sooner

sunshinechaser · 27/07/2024 15:38

@BowlOfNoodles I don't really have a favourite brand. This is what allows me to use tret each night-

AM
Tirtir milk skin toner light
Torriden Solid-In ceramide essence
Mary and May vegan Blackberry Cream essence (this has a lovely oil component which is nice under moisturiser)
Skin 1004 Madagascar Centella soothing cream
SPF

PM
Tretinoin 0.025%
Illyoon ceramide cream mixed with oil.
