I need inspiration! What gift would you like for £100-&150?

Hi everyone - my close friend turns 60 in a few weeks & I haven't got a clue what to buy her. Budget is £100-£150.

She's very glam & trendy. Into jewellery clothes, bags, beauty etc. Not perfume tho as she has gallons of it. Would prefer not a voucher as I want something she can unwrap on the day.

I need something I can get online as I don't live in the uk. Am hopelessly out of touch so would really appreciate some inspiration from you stylish, trendy mumsnetters! Thank you!

Etsy voucher. There are fabulous things on there! Or a notonthehighstreet one.

marshmallowfinder · 21/07/2024 11:15

Soz...didn't rtft and seen no voucher, but I'd buy a lovely bunch of flowers to give with the voucher in a card.

DTisawazzock · 21/07/2024 11:15

Vouchers are a cop out. OP has already said she doesn't want vouchers.

DTisawazzock · 21/07/2024 11:22

What about a nice trinket box? Beauty of this is she can keep it in a drawer if she doesn't want it on display. https://www.selfridges.com/GB/en/product/fornasetti-themes-and-variations-round-porcelain-box-10cm_273-3001925-P30X004/?cm_mmc=PLA--Google--HOMETECH-_-FORNASETTI&POR=Y

Is she sporty? I’d like a LuluLemon jacket. Too expensive to buy for myself but would be thrilled with it as a gift

Donation to her favourite charity

Mercurial123 · 21/07/2024 11:37

This is quite pretty

A Mner I know went and made a custom lipstick in London. Not sure ££ but sounds fun

JudgeBurrito · 21/07/2024 11:39

Do you have any idea of her style or brands she likes? It's a pretty wide scope you've given. Would she like posh candles? That's usually quite a safe but nice gift. Or do you know a brand of skincare she uses? Makeup and clothes are tricky to buy as you don't always know the shades and sizes.

CarrieMoonbeams · 21/07/2024 11:42

Do you think she'd like something from One Hundred Stars @MissNowt ? I've got my eye on one of their (dressing) gowns, one size fits between 8-18, most are £90 but some are actually half price in the sale.

There are generic patterns, but also some 'city' ones, so if she had a particular affinity to, for example New York, London, Edinburgh then one of them might be nice for her.

BetsyRegards · 21/07/2024 11:44

There’s a set of Folio Society books costing exactly £150 that I would have loved to be given for my 60th birthday …

Or two or three printed Magniberg pillowcases.

Or this year’s prizewinning collection of new poetry volumes from Carcanet or Faber - it would be lovely to have them to both mark and memorialise a significant birthday year.

MissNowt · 21/07/2024 12:05

Ooh some really lovely ideas there - thank you! I would love a one hundred stars dressing gown myself @CarrieMoonbeams! Didn't realise they were on sale Smile Bought a big scented candle for her last year so don't really want to repeat. Apologies as it's a very wide brief I know. She loves Chanel & Guerlain make up. I know she would adore a Coach bag but they're a bit beyond my price range. Off out now for the afternoon but will have a proper look tonight when I'm back. Again thank you!

A pair of silk pillowcases from John Lewis. Once you try them you won't want anything else. https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-organic-mulberry-silk-standard-pillowcase/natural-cream/p6131622

Floisme · 21/07/2024 12:09

Book(s) on fashion / costume history?
If she likes Chanel, Justine Picardie's biography is a good read and beautifully illustrated.
Is V&A membership too close to a voucher?

Thank you for this link I have just requested one for my birthday.

saturnspinkhoop · 21/07/2024 12:22

I think silk pillow cases are a good idea, as suggested by a previous poster. They are luxurious and good for skin and hair.

JudgeBurrito · 21/07/2024 12:40

Coach belt? The silk pillowcases are a great idea though, can't really go wrong with those.

Wahine24 · 21/07/2024 12:43

I wouldn't be thrilled by the faux leather (plastic) bag or sparkly bits of jewelry , but you know if your friend would like it. I would go for consumables ,nicer than you would tend to buy for yourself (iyswim) some nice smellies, drink ( if appropriate) that kind if thing
I hate to have to wear something I didn't like because my friend bought it.

TheGirlattheBack · 21/07/2024 12:52

Brand Alley have some Coach bags on sale for less than £150 at the moment.

BeaRF75 · 21/07/2024 13:01

Very much depends on the friend. I'm nearly 60 and would hate most of the stuff mentioned in thus thread (scented candles, FFS).
I'd quite like a voucher - esp Theatre Tokens. But if it has to be a thing, then a very smart notebook or stationery from Smythsons would be something I wouldn't buy for myself.
Selection of hardback books, re her hobbies/interests?
Annual membership of somewhere like the National Gallery or Royal Academy (or is that too voucher-y)?
Bottle of Adnams gin?
Expensive bamboo or cashmere socks?

Trouble is, most 60 year olds don't want more "stuff", they'd rather have experiences, a trip out..... just to go for a drink or meal together, tbh.

marshmallowfinder · 21/07/2024 13:03

DTisawazzock · 21/07/2024 11:15

Vouchers are a cop out. OP has already said she doesn't want vouchers.

Vouchers are not a cop out. So much nicer than a random object they may or may not like. It means they can choose something they really love but wouldn't normally treat themselves to.

Wahine24 · 21/07/2024 13:04

@BeaRF75 you put that way better than what I was trying to say! The op wanted a gift to open that's why I suggested consumables, but think you've got the nail on the head in an eloquent way

HangingOnJustAbout · 21/07/2024 13:08

Those dressing gowns are gorgeous, I would love one of those.

I generally hate being gifted 'stuff', how likely is it you'll hit the mark? A beautiful hamper of goodies or luxury choc and theatre token would be my ideal.
