Second Day hair at work

Lomita277 · 20/07/2024 19:04

As it reads! Second Day hair! So I live in an area with lime and the water is very hard. Mid fifties, professional job in a relatively casual atmosphere. I try to wash my hair every two days as the colour fades very quickly and I feel like the roots come out quickly too. My hairdresser gave me a great above shoulder cut that falls into place very well after a wash and blow drying at home. However, no matter what I do the second day: wet it/ spray and blow dry/use electric brush/ add some mousse, it always looks terrible and really frumpy the second day. Any suggestions for styling without washing every day? It’s just a side fringe and natural bob with a few layers.

Dry shampoo or Gym Refresh spray
Silk pillow case
Silk cap ?
Thats all I have…

I have a heartless curling set (band and two scrunchies method) that I use before bed. It’ll make your second day hair look a lot better. They’re very cheap and available in lots of places.

Dry shampoo

RaininSummer · 20/07/2024 19:24

I always clip my hair up on the second day. Is your long enough for a claw clip or something similar?

OatcakeCravings · 20/07/2024 19:26

Colour Wow Raise the Root, spray on dry hair at the roots and blow dry with whatever you normally use to dry your hair. Works great for me, I have a bob, I use a Revlon brush that blows air like a hairdryer. Hair looks almost as good as the first day and it takes less than 2 mins.

Minniemouse85 · 20/07/2024 19:31

I also put my hair up in the second day. Mine looks absolutely shocking if not freshly washed but a messy bun is great for me, takes 2 mins and I just leave the front bits out and put a light wave in them.

Try dry shampoo….the night before. I.e. before you go to bed. Seems to help mine a lot

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 20/07/2024 19:32

I just put mine up - sometimes even get a day 3 this way! Have very curly hair, prone to dryness so try not to wash too often.

Mine's relatively short but can twist just enough to put a clip on.

IamChipmunk · 20/07/2024 19:34

Same as others, I always put mine up second day. It's really fine and just looks greasy even though it isn't...

Buildingthefuture · 20/07/2024 19:37

Dry shampoo. I still think the Batise stuff is the best. I have horribly greasy hair, which a multitude of hairdressers have tried to fix. They couldn’t, so dry shampoo is my friend.

Overtheatlantic · 20/07/2024 19:41

I put mine up on the third day. I’m 56 with sensory issues so I hate washing my hair more than twice a week. Sometimes I leave it longer if I’m not going to the office.

Lomita277 · 22/07/2024 06:41

Thanks very much everyone for all the advice. I never tried dry shampoo so I’ll give it go!!!

If you are blonde just put talc in the roots at night and wear a silk bonnet!
Shake it out in the morning and you should be good to go.

Corinthiana · 22/07/2024 07:22

I don't know what you mean by terrible and "frumpy"?

Commonsenseisnotsocommon · 22/07/2024 07:23

edition.cnn.com/2022/11/03/health/dry-shampoo-lab-testing/index.html have a look at this before using dry shampoo. I personally would avoid it and instead follow some of the other suggestions.

PuppyMonkey · 22/07/2024 07:23

I use my babyliss big hair the second day for my classic bob (it’s not really long enough to put up or do anything like that). Just use it to reshape and add volume. Works a treat!

😂 Sorry, I know everybody hates that word! It just falls flat on my head like a helmet!!!

Is that because of too much product or not enough body?
If it's been well cut, it should be fine.
Failing that, maybe a gentle wash with baby shampoo on the second day? I wash my hair every day because it doesn't look good if I don't.

Pootles34 · 22/07/2024 11:29

Dry shampoo before you go to bed. It does leave white marks on the pillow but its much better than using it in the morning.

Gwenhwyfar · 22/07/2024 12:08

I think you may just need a different style to be honest. My hairdresser always wans to put layers in mine, but I have to refuse because they always look awful the second day or the morning after I've washed it.
