Evening all! Thanks to Tracy Beaker for the new title!
Roll on some bling and style, though it may be a while!

I'm either wearing my jewellery or it's in a small wall safe. No insurance for me - over 20-odd years I could have bought myself another piece with the saved premiums! There's a thread on MN somewhere about real versus lab diamonds and they reckon the real ones are going down in value as the labs are so similar but cheaper.

My parents had a safe cemented into the floor, and it was stollen with all my mums jewellery in it.

I lost the stone out of my engagement ring while it was on my finger and had it replaced via the insurance so wearing it is no guarantee of not having reason to claim.

Agreed but 20 years of not paying the premium would probably cover it?

How did they do that?

A pick axe and a big hammer! No one was at home, and they lived in the country so no near neighbours.

It's not mega valuable - it's the only single item on our insurance and I think it adds a miniscule amount to the premium. It's probably a balancing between the value of your items and the cost of adding them. In my case I'd had the ring less than 5 years when I claimed so I was definitely up on the deal.

Mary was knocked over by a mobility scooter ridden by an elderly man who wanted to shake her hand during their tour of Greenland.
She was shaken but unhurt and the visit was resumed after police were satisfied it was an accident.
Poor Mary, it must have been scary.

Yes, I saw film of that! Glad all is ok.
On a fashion note, that's a beautiful traditional outfit.

The Spanish royals look good although Leti’s dress is a bit odd around the bodice and makes it look like one boob is much lower than the other.

Maireas · 25/07/2024 09:37

Yes, it's a strange design - I like the colour and neckline but I think you have to be careful with asymmetric lines.

I like the colour and the skirt, but there is definitely something unusual going on with the bodice. She looks like she has developed a list to one side

(I started writing this a few days ago, or yesterday? But out of date now...but I'll post it anyway)

I don't know about other royals, but IIRC the PoW doesn't routinely wear jewellery of such stonking value. Not that I want to compare the two women too much...

Catherine's day-to-day watch is somewhere around £6000 IIRC, whereas Diana's Cartier Tank is worth around £18,000. Kate's jewellery is usually around the £500-2000 mark for each item and then once in a while she'll pull something out that's around £8000-10,000. A few items hit the £10,000-20,000, like the brooch she was given by the King. What's different is she doesn't usually wear a selection of several expensive items at once - usually it's one expensive piece. Of course her engagement ring is extremely valuable but that's sort of its own category isn't it. I think the only time she wears really, really expensive jewellery is when she's wearing things from the royal collection, some of which are virtually priceless.

I thought Meghan looked really good in the denim/white shirt combo; she does that Cali casual look very well and it's really about the only time things tend to actually fit and sit well. Apparently her Dior bag was embossed with DSSOS (Duchess of Sussex). I also thought she looked great in that white halterneck dress at the ESPYs - I liked it better than the one she wore for her wedding reception.

I recall Kate getting some negative press for wearing this diamond necklace. It's reported to cost £49k although the Express claims it's worth £100k. I think she has only worn it twice in public and not for a decade. I wonder if she wears it much in private or if it is just sitting in a vault somewhere.

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 25/07/2024 11:44

Ohhh I didn't remember that one!

That seems a very expensive piece to wear so early on. I wonder if it had been Diana's - I know she wore a trinity ring. But I assume she never wore the necklace in public otherwise a very big deal would have been made in the press upon Kate's appearance wearing it...

Interesting.

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 25/07/2024 11:45

It's quite nice! I'd like one.

DuchessOfPort · 25/07/2024 11:53

I think the Cartier necklace was a nod to the 2012 Olympics initially. The rings or something.

It’s true Kate’s usually a little more dialled down for jewellery during the day. It may be a nod to the slightly old-fashioned rule you don’t wear diamonds before 6pm (bar your engagement ring) but obviously she does a bit with some earrings.

Pippa, for example, has an evening watch from Cartier that she wears during the day - so called, because it has diamonds round the dial. Kate also has a Cartier watch but no diamonds as she wears it all the time and someone like HLMTQ or the grey me - might point out it’s not technically correct to do that. It’s not like she can’t afford one!

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 25/07/2024 12:01

Oh my goodness, just had a look at Levi's dress...terrible design! You can't have an assymetric bodice set across the boobs like that, it's going to make one side look horribly droopy!

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 25/07/2024 12:05

Even QEII wore diamond earrings in daytime didn't she. I think some of those conventions have changed a bit over the years.

DuchessOfPort · 25/07/2024 12:52

QE2 was most prone to a pearl (and diamond) earring during the day rather than just diamonds I think though she might have done for weddings / funerals / big events. Didn’t hold back on brooches though. Diamonds all over the shop!

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 25/07/2024 14:49

True. I remember Daisy saying, on a programme about the Scandinavian royal jewels, that if a wedding is held during the day (as they are) and it will continue into the evening (as they do), then tiaras and other serious jewellery will be worn regardless of other rules as to when/what. That's also the programme where she said 'we don't count the carats, we count the centuries' which I thought was a great line.

deeahgwitch · 25/07/2024 16:02

I would like someone to style Infanta Sofia's hair as I don't think it suits her the way she wears it.

I agree Leti's asymmetrical dress gives her asymmetrical boobs.

locketrocket · 25/07/2024 16:44

Something I've wondered for a long time..

What is the difference between Princess & Infanta? The succession line?

Thank you 😊
