Tiara alert

Victoria López-Quesada y Borbón married Enrique Moreno de la Cova on Saturday. King Felipe VI, her godfather, attended the wedding.
Victoria’s wedding gown is a Lorenzo Caprile; she wore the Habsburg Buttons tiara with an additional fleur-de-lys brooch.
Victoria is the eldest daughter of Princess Cristina de Borbón Dos Sicilias, herself the eldest daughter of Infante Carlos de las Dos Sicilias and Princess Anne d’Orleàns.
Princess Cristina is the lady in green.

her mum’s wedding, tiara sans brooch

Group picture with Queen Sofia and Infantas Elena and Cristina.

The wedding venue is Soto de Mozanaque, the Duke of Alburquerque’s estate in the outskirts of Madrid. It is odd that they did not choose La Toledana (Victoria’s family) or any of the groom’s places in Andalucía

Little Charles is adorable.

i often think Princess Carina took an almighty gamble on that relationship with Prince Gustav working out. They have had to delay starting their family until her mid fifties . It has surely put their lives on a very different course.

Earrings as well?

Victoria looks beautiful, that's a very elegant dress. Her Mum looks lovely in the green dress, it drapes well. Nice bling! Thanks for the family detail, @Mencia .

@Maireas Lorenzo Caprile’s dresses are always very elegant. And timeless!
Infanta Cristina’s was also a Caprile, aeons ago.

this other Caprile is Victoria’s new SIL, Cristina Moreno de la Cova. She married in 2018 in the family palace in the province of Córdoba

I really like the bride's simple sheath of flowers so much more than that very big, stiff bunch of pink flowers that Martha-Louise carried.

Mencia · 02/09/2024 09:17

Princess Cristina’s green dress is also by Lorenzo Caprile.

Who is the woman in the mantilla?

Who is the woman in the mantilla?

I think, but could be wrong, that in Spain traditionally the mothers of the bride and groom wear a mantilla and peiñata at a wedding (if they wish, of course!).

deeahgwitch · 02/09/2024 11:41

That is some mantilla !
The bridal gown is beautiful.

Indeed! Verging on "AIBU to think MiL might've worn a smaller mantilla to my wedding and not upstaged me?"!!

It's just been announced that Princess Sofia is expecting her 4th child, due in Feb 2025.

Choux · 02/09/2024 15:50

Congratulations to her and her husband. I feel a bit mean now calling her boobs 'a low shelf' in her outfit at the weekend!

AllTangledUpInTitlesAndTiaras · 02/09/2024 15:56

Heh @Choux I did think to myself, that explains that!

Lunde · 02/09/2024 16:25

I was going to say on Saturday that her boobs looked bigger and almost like she had a small bump - but didn't like to in case she was perimenopausal.

Who is the woman in the mantilla?

The mother of the groom, Cristina Ybarra y Sainz de la Maza, from a very aristocratic family

Lovely news for Carl-Phillips and Sofia!

Mencia · 02/09/2024 18:39

Mother of the groom only (protocol) although in some parts of Spain mantillas are not used anymore in weddings.
In the past it was the traditional formal attire for ladies. My grandmothers and great-grandmothers married in a gown plus mantilla combo. White mantilla and gown and also brides in colour plus black mantilla. Marrying with a white mantilla in the early XX century meant that the family had money for a white one (everybody used to have a black one). Back then mantillas were very expensive as it is basically embroidered “blonda” / chantilly lace. Not anymore as now you can find very cheap polyester mantillas but I’m sure this lady’s is antique and frightfully expensive.
i have a black one inherited from my great-grandmother and it is so light and delicate you are scared to even unfold it but I’ve used it several times (Holy Week events) with an antique “peina” (the big comb on top of your head) and my mother wore this ensemble for my brothers’ weddings. We also have a white one, my maternal grandmother’s wedding mantilla, but it is even more delicate. My paternal grandmother married in a black one!

Maireas · 02/09/2024 19:14

That's fascinating, @Mencia - how wonderful to still have these beautiful, treasured items.
It's funny because I was raised RC, and we used to wear mantillas to Mass. I went to a convent school and we had to have one in our school bags! I had a beautiful black lace one, it draped so beautifully. If course it wasn't anything like the ones in your family, but I did like wearing it!

Speaking of Habsburgs, The Rest is History had an episode with Eduard Habsburg-Lothringen who I think wrote a book on his family history and therefore was interviewed. I might be misremembering the book but interview was had. Anyway, an interesting insight into how the family views itself, how strongly religious they are etc. (Obviously not every single individual, but you know what I mean.)

445. The Habsburgs: Secrets of a Dynasty

Charles V, The Holy Roman Emperor of the House of Habsburg, was at once King of Spain, Archduke of Austria, Lord of the Netherlands and Duke of Burgundy. With a lineage supposedly stretching back to Noah’s Ark, and a name born in Ancient Rome, the Habs...
