Perfume Challenge

I long to find a lovely perfume that I really love. But I am just not a "perfume person". I find spending more than a few minutes smelling different perfumes leaves me feeling sick with a headache. And a lot of perfume smells the same to me - overpowering and just... "perfumey". I got a scent selection once and all but one smelt horrible (to me) and the one I liked was just OK, it didn't warrant a repurchase.

I wore J'Adore when I was younger, which again was OK but to be honest it smelt much better on my friend than it did on me (which was why I started wearing it, she always smelt so good!).

I have recently started using Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentré and I LOVE the smell. It has re-awoken the desire to find a scent that I love. There must be one out there for me?

I am looking for recommendations of things I might try/sample... I am not sure what the Embryolisse smells of exactly, but it is a soft light sweetish floral scent (I think). I like smells like jasmine/honeysuckle/hyacinth, etc. but I have never found a perfume that gives that kind of smell and they all have so many notes. I think I want something simple!

I have an ancient Boots Natural Collection roll-on perfume that was jasmine and nutmeg. It's probably 20 years old so I don't use it anymore but I can't bear to part with it as I love the smell!

Am I a lost cause? I am thinking of trying scent box but worried I will just end up disappointed.

Could use a site like fragrantica and look for the scent profile for Embryolisse and search for similar notes?

I agree scent selections can be hit and miss; especially if they are from the same house they can be too similar. I've had some success with The Perfume Society as they do selections from different houses.

Also going to department stores and trying some scents, either on me or on a testing strip and seeing how they develop over a day. One of my favourite perfumes was a sample which I disliked and rejected on application but it really grew on me over the day.
