What shoes to wear with jeans/trousers in the autumn/winter?

I think most people wear boots, but I'm super short (5ish foot) and I find boots with jeans just make me look a bit frumpy and even shorter.

I like flats but prefer a bit of a heel (see above re shortness).

Any ideas?

Autumn and winter are cancelled on the grounds that most of us are still waiting for summer dress weather.
