Tretinoin

Started tret on 3rd July. Applying every night, 0.5%. Slight sting when I use it for a few mins then nothing. Tiny bit of dry skin but no redness or breakouts. My sebaceous filaments on my chin that I've spent years trying to get rid of have almost disappeared in less than 10 days. Is it too good to be true? Still time for bad side effects? Or is it really as good as the Internet says?

I've been on tret for a year now and am now on 0.05. I still get the odd day when it stings a bit. When that happens I miss a day..

bryceQ · 28/08/2024 11:54

My skin doesn't like Tret with any chemical exfoliation so I don't use BHA/AHA but everyone's skin is different.

Hopebridge · 28/08/2024 12:18

What routine do you follow in the am please?

Insidenumber09 · 28/08/2024 12:30

Hi all, shameless link to my tretinoin provider. If you sign up via my link you get a discount and so do I on my next purchase:

small tip - as you answer the online questions/consultation there is an “any further comment/info box” or something like that - in there I put that I was interested to try tretinoin (to make sure that’s what was prescribed for my skin otherwise it’s not necessarily a given). They agreed I could try it and have been using it for about a year - it has definitely helped lesson the look of my 11s.

Thank you but I have ordered from Shinorac as saw it mentioned. It hasn't come yet but ordered the low and medium strength.

Fraaahnces · 28/08/2024 14:24

You shouldn’t use Tret every night to start with. Try twice a week, sandwiched between a milky toner and your moisturizer. (Or moisturiser and Vaseline). Then after a month, every second day, then after another month, every day. Avoid eye area and around lips and nostrils.
This way you should skip the “uglies”. Never skip the sunscreen. You can absolutely skip daytime moisturiser. Most sunscreens double as daydreams. (Best ones come from Korea IMO.)

LizzeyBenett · 28/08/2024 14:33

Sounds like an awful lot to start with also there is a lower strength that would of been where I would start and use every other night to begin

What routine do you follow in the am please?

I am very simple. I use a Korean rice toner and then an Spf 50 then Erborian CC cream and that's all I wear.

This makes my skin happy not to over cleanse or strip it.

FartingAgainstThunder · 28/08/2024 18:23

Can anyone recommend a good SPF that will sit nicely under a skin tint?

Starting tret on 7th September and I'll have run out of my current SPF (which I really hate but it was expensive so I'm using it up)

Thesheerrelief · 28/08/2024 19:06

Bioré watery essence - it goes on like a dream under makeup. I buy it from amazon.

Helpful thank you. I use spf 50 daily and cerave at the moment.

Hopebridge · 28/08/2024 19:12

I got the lowest strength so I can do once a week and see how my skin tolerates 🤞Thanks for all the tips. Will look at Korean skincare ". I see Superdrug offer this

Hi. I have ordered this but imagine it will take awhile. Just a few questions. Is it best to use once a week to start? I ordered a low strength and a medium strength to build up. Which serums do you use alongside to use in the morning and can you use any at night safely when not using this? Thanks in advance. I have ordered cerave to sandwich with it after reading it's a good one to moisturise with. Thank you.

For the lower strength to work, you need to use it atleast thrice a week in the beginning.

I am thinking of trying this, does it give you dryness on your skin?

The Bioré essence? No, quite the opposite- my sensitive and often dry skin really likes it and finds it hydrating

shronwer · 13/12/2024 19:54

I've had 0.02% tretinoin 2% hydroquinone since September. Lines are smoother and less noticeable in photos, and my pigmentation has faded by 80%.
