Mysterious marks on my clothes

I have a few tops made from polyester crepe, delicate fabric but it drapes very nicely. Several of them have developed a visible dark line across them. What has caused this and how can I remove the marks?

I always machine wash on a short cold cycle in a mesh bag. I tried re washing with detergent on the marks but it hasn’t worked. I’m pretty sure it isn’t an oily stain , it seems more like the fabric is damaged.

could this be caused by a heated dryer rack??

I’d say it’s from drying folded over a rack. Wash again and dry on a hanger.

Yes, I think you’re right in that the fabric has been damaged by the rail of the heated drier. Such a shame as you’ve taken such care washing them.

I’d wash them again use a hanger to dry and iron on the inside. Hopefully this will minimise the marks.

Some Polyester melts with heat ( synthetic based ) . Shouldn't be tumbled dried or hung over heated rails

The dark lines are where the heat from the rails have shrunk the fibres and melded them together

Definitely from the heated airer!

Oh dear, thanks everyone. Looks like they are beyond saving, lesson learned.

Although they well may be ruined, I’d still try washing again and drying on a hanger. Nothing lost if it doesn’t work.

Agree, it's definitely worth a go!

You might find that when you wear them the marks are in places that are not really noticeable so they may not be ruined.

I certainly will try washing again, as you say nothing lost if it doesn’t work, but I have tried this once already when I thought it was a stain rather than damage. I generally do dry my delicate things on hangers but I hang them on the heated dryer in between the rails, so either these ones were missed and went on the rails directly or it was enough for them just to touch the rails as they dried. Possibly DH may have been responsible 🤔

Or it could be dye transfer from a bag.
