Holiday in the sun essential?

redfacebigdisgrace · 11/07/2024 06:40

What’s your style and beauty hot holiday absolute essential(s)?

mine are, as narrowed down as possible:

beauty -
getting my eyebrows and lashes tinted beforehand

factor 50

every day light fake tan body lotion as I’m naturally pale

style -

black flip flops that I wear with everything. I’ve upgraded my usual Havianas to Fitflops as my knees were struggling walking too far in the very flat Havianas.

cotton dresses- so much easier when it’s hot and you can’t be bothered coordinating tops and bottoms!

GHD travel hairdryer. Most hotel hairdryers are shit and I like nice hair on holiday.

redfacebigdisgrace · 11/07/2024 07:23

@Twilightstarbright I’ve never tried that. Maybe I should!

Pretty much the same as you @redfacebigdisgrace, except the eyelashes and brow tint. I have dark lashes and brows that don't need any extra help.

My flip flops are teal not black.

My hair is quite thin these days (thank you menopause Sad) so I don't need a powerful hairdryer.

A sun hat. I took a baseball cap this year and wore it a lot.

redfacebigdisgrace · 11/07/2024 07:44

Yes @RampantIvy a hat! I need a new one. I’m comfiest in baseball caps but would love to look cool and stylish in a Panama but feel a fraud 🤭

Beach cover up that double as dresses.

Chub rub shorts

BB cream for face (don't like to be completely are faced)

Large straw bag

Hardingham291 · 11/07/2024 07:56

Oh and a long sleeved rash vest for swimming (also pale!)

Girlintheframe · 11/07/2024 07:58

Beauty

SPF
Uv hair protectant
Small magnified mirror
Tinted lip balm/mascara/liquid blush

mitogoshi · 11/07/2024 08:02

Timberland leather sandals, selection of dresses, couple of bikinis, factor 50, hat, wrap to protect from sun / evening warmth. Very limited make up (lip, mascara, eye brow gel, shampoo and conditioner as the free stuff is weird on my hair unless very expensive hotel. Stying gel

RampantIvy · 11/07/2024 08:11

I bought some really comfortable Skechers arch support sandals for my holiday this year, and they have been brilliant. Sadly, they haven't had much wear since then.

Sundresses for not having to fuss with 2 things per outfit.
I’m so low maintenance on holiday it’s unbelievable!! No pre holiday beauty treatments, no makeup, don’t bother with my hair other than basic washing and air drying and plaits to keep it away from my face.
i’ll shave and paint my nails before we go, spf daily but that’s about it. So refreshing 😂

isthismylifenow · 11/07/2024 08:47

I live in a hot country so this would be my non negotiables:

Sunglasses
A few decent hats, as one is possibly to be full of sand, wet or possibly left behind/blown away
Spf, and then some more (spf is expensive in hot countries unbelievably)
A kimono or some type of throw over that doubles up as a beach cover, gown or when there is a bit of a bite in the air
After sun or body lotion
Talc (if its a beach holiday)
Beach towel (if not supplied)
Two bags, one for a day out and a cross body type for wandering around.

Agree with easy throw on dresses that are light and easy to rinse through.

Same with loose tops, linen is always recommended but they don't always look great when you don't have great washing/ironing facilities.

Have a great time!

I'm as low maintenance as you.

@isthismylifenow sunglasses are a no brainer for me, and should be for everyone. They help reduce the risk of eye cancer and cataracts. I don't understand why anyone wouldn't wear them in bright weather, especially if there is a lot of glare from water, white buildings etc.

LesFlamamdes · 11/07/2024 12:59

We don’t often do beach, resort holidays. But when I stay with my family in Provence it’s:

Natural manicure on finger nails, brightish pink on toes.

Mascara, light facial suncream, eyebrow gel. A bit of light scent.

68 litres of antiperspirant.

Light, longish, plain cotton dresses with short sleeves (too hot for sleeveless).

Black linen dresses and gold jewellery for going out.

A Panama hat and sunglasses.

A halter neck swimsuit or bikini and in Indian cotton cover all. Although I don’t wear much about the garden/ pool when parents/ teens are out or otherwise engaged. My mum still happily swims topless when we are all there!

Tan sandals, white flip flops.

DH spends most of the week in Speedos and Crocs. Unless he had to do a Supermarche run. Then, mercifully, he puts a shirt and shorts on.

TheChosenTwo · 11/07/2024 14:05

Oh very true @isthismylifenow - I wear them every day in the U.K. so I don’t even realise people might only take them on holiday 😂

I did list them as number 1 as I wasn't sure if they were an every day item worn colder climates.

TheChosenTwo · 11/07/2024 15:58

Mine are worn daily, even when it’s cloudy I squint! I sometimes wear them when I’m at my desk 😂

redfacebigdisgrace · 11/07/2024 21:18

Yes yes to sunglasses! I have about 6 pairs.

@LesFlamamdes are you and your husband French? I just got a gorgeous Indian cotton covert up to wear over my bikini. I used to take a Panama hat away every year but I always felt a bit silly in it. I’m not a hat person.

Sarongs. The huge thin ones. Work as a beach throw, top, cover up, skirt. Love them
