Would you go back to the hairdressers? (pics) Unhappy with colour

I turned up with my previous round of balayage really light and faded out, and asked for it to be darkened up slightly (back to a dark blonde/light ash brown colour like my roots). The hairdresser said she would do some low lights to 'break up the blonde' which sounded like what I wanted. I showed her the first picture as what I wanted.

The next two pictures are what I've ended up with. It looks very orange/red in the light (I asked for cool tone) and there is barely any blonde highlights/dimension. It's way too dark as well - it looks lighter in the pictures due to the flash.

I paid nearly £300 and paid for a 'full head of foils', but it looks very one dimensional with tiny sprinklings of lighter pieces. For context, the fourth picture is what my hair looked like after my appointment earlier this year - I loved the ribbons of blonde throughout and felt like I got my money's worth as it was very dimensional. I feel like it looks very flat and brassy now in comparison.

It looks almost exactly like the picture to me if I’m honest. I’d be quite happy with that result. You’re never going to achieve an exact match as everyone’s hair takes bleach and colour differently.

Balayaged hair always looks better with some waves/curls to bring the lightness out. Worth a try

If you are unhappy, go back. It’s as simple as that!

Are you sure that my pics haven't confused you? The first is the inspo, the second and third are from today and the fourth/last one is from March when I last had my hair done (aka the 'before')

I think it looks lovely but I think you’d have preferred chunkier sections of lighter blonde rather than it all being blended. I’d say the inspiration picture has a much darker base colour so you see the contrast more clearly.
If you’re unhappy then contact them and see what they can do.

AutumnColours9 · 08/07/2024 23:24

I don't see a problem with it. It looks nice. It rarely ends up like the photos we show.

HungryLittleCrocodile · 08/07/2024 23:24

The pics of your hair (all of them) look like they have been taken at the same time @backtohairsalon

You are being paranoid. Your hair looks nice.

LauderSyme · 08/07/2024 23:35

I can see that the pics of what you've just had done are not the same as what was done earlier this year, nor the same as your inspo pic.

I think what you have now is a very pretty colour and it doesn't look flat or brassy to me.

But I can see what you mean when you say it is one dimensional due to the lack of 'ribbons'. If you're not happy and you don't think you've got what you asked for - and paid for - you should approach the salon again.

Blink282 · 08/07/2024 23:39

I think it looks nice, but i don’t think it looks like a £300 balayage.

Vespanest · 08/07/2024 23:41

The inspiration photo has money pieces at the front, I’d imagine the back would be similar to the back and sides you have shown. I wouldn’t be surprised if it has some blonde extensions underneath as well

Unfortunately, I think I agree.

I am sure the salon could do something more for you OP.

Ihateslugs · 08/07/2024 23:56

I have low lights in my hair rather than high lights as they are more subtle and I don’t get roots showing. The hairdresser puts the foils underneath the top layer of my hair so the colour tends to be seen when I move my head and the top layer blows away - if that makes sense!

It could be the difference you can see is the difference between the low lights you had this time compared to highlights last time?

PrincessMee · 09/07/2024 00:06

It's nothing like the first pic. It's different from what you had before which was lovely. Is it now the same colours all the way up so not a bayalage at all? I can see why you are disappointed. Go back as say you are unhappy and see what they will do. Any good salon will rectify.

wanttokickoffbutcant · 09/07/2024 00:10

It also doesn't look so smooth and conditioned in the later photo's

Whataretalkingabout · 09/07/2024 00:19

The more you fixate on it the worse it will seem to you. It looks fine to me. Wait two months and then start over?

I find people who have absolutely gorgeous hair are never satisfied.

Normalnot · 09/07/2024 00:31

You have got beautiful hair but I agree that the colour isn’t worth £300. Whilst it’s nice, that’s not the point, it’s not what you asked for and did that amount I’d be wanting it bang on!

I prefer the last pic (when you had it done last time) as you can see it’s been highlighted etc but the new ‘doo’ hardly looks like anything has been done to it.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 09/07/2024 08:58

I prefer the 2nd and 3rd pictures. The fourth looks flat and dull. I don't like the inspo hair at all. It looks fake and very obviously dyed.

CollyBobble · 09/07/2024 09:28

It looks better now as to your last/before photo where it looks stripes.

However, I get what you are saying as you wanted more definition, that striped look so perhaps go back and ask for more contrast.

BrighterEyes · 09/07/2024 09:41

Its impossible to tell as the photos are too close up and we can't see your whole head.

crampyi · 09/07/2024 09:53

To be honest, I really don’t want to hurt you when you are down so to speak, but I think based on your description of what you wanted the hairdresser delivered what you wanted.

I turned up with my previous round of balayage really light and faded out, and asked for it to be darkened up slightly (back to a dark blonde/light ash brown colour like my roots).
