Depends on your definition of ££££!
I have several coated from Seasalt and they are for more weatherproof than anything else I have ever tried

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/07/2024 15:33

What is your budget?

bearcubb · 07/07/2024 15:34

The North Face outlet stores always have ones reasonably priced.

Spinachandcheese · 07/07/2024 15:35

Nikwax is your friend

Omgwhatthehell · 07/07/2024 15:38

Depending on your budget, Rains ones are brilliant.
I probably wouldn’t have bought one full price but got one on offer from BrandAlley.
It’s really breathable, so you don’t feel all clammy in it.
I like to think it looks Scandi cool, rather than a lot of waterproof coats which give me geek or hiking vibes 😂

HowIrresponsible · 07/07/2024 15:44

Not necessarily. You do tend to get what you pay for with waterproofs that actually are waterproof.

What do you need it for? Is it for hiking, long periods out doors, do you need it waterproof or just splash proof?

Tryingtodobetter82 · 07/07/2024 15:48

North face are great.

North face are great.

Actually in terms of durability they're the worst in reviews. They're more a lifestyle brand rather than actual technical gear. Also I hate that every other teenage boy or girl is plastered in their logos in winter.

This is mine. Got it in the sale bit now sold out. It does the job and it breathable

I got a lightweight leopard print one from Lands End last year.

Very waterproof (withstood wet Welsh holiday) but doesn't have any air vents, so only recommend if you're not going to be too vigorous.

I can't see one like mine on the website; they have a few styles which are billed as water resistant. They have one waxed cotton parka style that is billed as water repellent, and one fleece-lined one described as waterproof.

If you want light-weight and v waterproof plus ventilated, and can spend £££, try the outdoor brands Arcteryx and Innov8 (stormshell)

EdithStourton · 07/07/2024 15:57

It depends what you want it for and how stylish you want to look. I have a lightweight Barbour that is great for dog walking but also smart enough for the rare occasions I set foot in a city. It's well-cut and well made.

As a PP has said, SeaSalt are also v good.

dyzzie · 07/07/2024 16:10

I have had one of these for about 10 years and quality has been brilliant and remained fully waterproof. I replaced it this year as the zip had finally broken. I hope this one will last another 10

Seasalt

Cinnabarmotheaten · 07/07/2024 16:57

Another vote for Seasalt worn for years daily in winter and cant fault.

shuffleofftobuffalo · 07/07/2024 17:59

Unfortunately with raincoats you really do get what you pay for. It's quite technical to make a garment waterproof- it's not just the fabric it's the construction, it takes more time than popping a coat together, plus the coatings. So they cost more.

Seasalt are my favourite, after years of being really annoyed by "waterproof" costs that prove themselves not to be so the first time they go in the rain I finally found the perfect coats.

Have a look on their eBay outlet there's some good deals to be had.

Ilse jacobsen on sale on sainsburys atm

WhyDoesItAlways · 08/07/2024 00:02

Helly hensen do some good waterproof coats. They were originally a sailing clothing company and do waterproof very well.

deeahgwitch · 09/07/2024 15:22

I love my Ilse Jacobsen Rain 71raincoat.
It's just about knee length.
It coms in lots of colours.

Thewaytogohome · 09/07/2024 18:33

I has a Seasalt one that I "outgrew" but is still going strong on a smaller friend. Very waterproof. The Barbour I bought to replace it is good but I preferred the Seasalt one.
